The Rival Brothers, 8:50 p.m.
The band’s fictitious lore presents this quintet as the bastard sons of Bad Company. The truth is, unfortunately, decidedly more straightforward: Bobby Sutton had a few tunes, and started gaining a small following at his solo shows. To flesh those songs out, he assembled a crackerjack crew of veteran local musicians: drummer Jay Crosby, keyboardist Dave Britt, bassist James Ervin and guitarist Philippe Herndon. The result is double-edged Americana, at times smooth and slick (“Say”; “Deny”), at times biting and jagged like outlaw country (“Miles Away”; “Pill”). Sutton’s a skilled singer with an ear for a hook, and Ervin and Crosby form one of this town’s tightest rhythm sections. But Herndon is the band’s secret weapon, his phrasings masterful and his playing tasteful and refined. Truth, in this case, might not be stranger than fiction, but, really, wouldn’t you rather listen to this band than The Bastard Sons of Bad Company? P. Wall - Free Times - Entertainment Weekly

The Rival Brothers were formed in the beginning of 2012 and in a few short months have gone on to play every major festival in Columbia, SC and have played all of the areas main venues. The band has a unique sound that is new but still retains enough of the familiar to engage many different musical audiences.
For audiences that first see The Rival Brothers live, it is often commented that the band exhibits a high degree of musical proficiency.
The Rival Brothers have been featured twice on WACH Fox news on the Daily Morning show and have received limited radio air play on WXRY 99.3 and The Palm 92.1.
The band was recently a wild card finalist in the Tin Roof's "building the band".
The band's plans for 2013 include recording a new EP with a professional producer at Archer Avenues Studios along with some limited touring in the tri-state area of SC, NC and GA.
All members of the Rival Brothers are business professionals by day but have a long standing love for making memorable music and showcasing that music to a live audience.
