Bio

2007 Juno Award Nominee Todd Porter releases album with new band “The River Pilots”

After two years of touring coast to coast with Afro beat band “Mr. Something Something,” Todd Porter has joined forces with Carlie Howell, Daniel Howlett and Tanya Matthews to form “The River Pilots.” This is a collective of the best up and coming composer/performers in Toronto. These musicians have shared the stage with acts such as Sarah McLachlan, Blue Rodeo, Lorena McKennitt, Chris Potter, and Sarah Harmer. As the River Pilots they have consistently played to capacity crowds including a sold out opening slot for 70's Folk Rock group "America" in January 2009 and 2008 Winterfolk and Oakville festivals as well as the 2007 Toronto International Jazz Festival.

Their debut album “The Unexpected Adventures of..” covers huge creative and sonic territory, and was nominated for two Ontario Independent Music Awards in 2008, as well as reaching #10 on the Canadian College Radio Jazz charts. The music is fresh and alive, recorded with no overdubs, edits, or added effects. They take audiences on a journey across the globe and into the soul with saxophones, guitars, banjo, acoustic bass, world drums, percussion and more. The River Pilots are a decadent auditory experience not to be missed.
