"Last Night, Rocker Stalker Said…: SXSW 2013 Day 4 New favorite band"

Up next, Fort Worth’s Roaming Soldiers became one of my top new bands of this year’s SXSW, winning my heart with rock ‘n roll grit, bluesy sass, and southern twang. - Rocker Stalker

"What to do in Austin"

The Roaming Soldiers

Hometown: Dallas, Texas, United States

“A rock band of young men with old souls…” By creating a heavy mix of deep southern soul and hard driving roots rock The Roaming Soldiers have cemented themselves in the rock and roll scene. By not solely looking at hometown shows to get a career started the band have set their sights to other cities and states. Bringing our sound to a new set of ears is the most fulfilling thing of being in a band, and that’s just what we aim to do.

"Great Member’s Picks in the Jukebox Now!"

First, Cage The Elephant’s new album Thank You, Happy Birthday was released this Tuesday, 1-11-11. In honor of the big day, I thought we would feature a couple songs off the album. We have “Aberdeen,” “Right Before My Eyes,” and “Always Something” in the jukebox for y’all right now. Check them out!!

Next, we have “Shotgun” by the Roaming Soldiers. This Dallas band is trying to spread the word about their rock sounds so give them a listen! And thanks to HitPredictor member RockMusicChick for nominating this one. She is one of those rare gems in our family of music lovers that feels really passionate about bands she loves and she wants to get the word out about them.

"The Roaming Soldiers"

Texas based Rock / Americana / Southern Rock unleash this new six track ep Shine Bird Shine, and what a great Ep it is.

The Roaming soldiers describe themselves as a are a raw blues, rock, soul, jazz and jam band, and that's exactly what they are. The songs are finely crafted and excellently performed, in fact everything about this Ep really is from the very top draw. Be it David George's amazing bluesy and soulful vocals or the sublime guitar work of Jesse Anderson. As I said, the songs are brilliant, but the two that stand out the most for me have got to be 'Shotgun' and 'Last Cards'. Hopefully these guys will manage to get some dates over on this side of the pond as Id really like to check them out in a live environment.

Great old fashioned blues rock with southern flavour!

"Ramble on"

The Roaming Soldiers

Like a car that’s broken down on the side of a highway under a blistering desert sun, The Roaming Soldiers make the kind of music that demands some sweat and grit to get going. Guitars screech and groan like a machine that desperately needs oil; rhythms buck and start before jolting forward precariously. It’s swampy, soulful Southern rock that’s made for beer drinking and bad decisions. On “Shot Gun,” dual guitars rear up like a double-headed dragon, scorching everything around them while cymbals shimmy in the background like a rattlesnake ready to pounce. “Healing Machine” is a lurching, angular groove that has whiffs of Black Crowes’ “Remedy.” Anyone who’s ever been kicked in the teeth by life will find plenty of commiseration in the bitter blues jam “Last Cards.” If howling and licking your wounds isn’t your thing, skip to “Strange” for a Zeppelin-esque guitar lashing. Pain’s no picnic, but The Roaming Soldiers make it hurt so good.
