""Nowhere to be""

He was Texas Music when Texas Music wasn’t cool. Hell probably none of us even had thought of the term “Texas Music” until Texas Tech gave us Pat Green and Cory Morrow in recent years. Since then the emergence of artists and bands have been astounding, but many slip away in the dark of night for reasons many of us will never know. Enter Robert Henry. While his name isn’t familiar to most of yet, it will be. Henry who attended Tech with Green and Morrow had never made music a high priority. He loved it like the rest of ‘em, and at times fought to get time on the guitar. But those who had to fight to get the guitar were referred to as the “B-Teamers.” It’s pretty ironic that some ten years later, Henry has assembled a stellar cast of musicians called the B-Team, and put together a rock-steady album (“Nowhere to Be”) of cuts that will rival him with his Tech compatriates.

But where Green and Morrow have fallen into their own niches, Green formerly focusing on the beer drinkin’, barroom lamentin’, taco-filled roadtrips, and Morrow falling back into traditional country ala Willie Nelson, Henry brings to the table a Mellencamp-ish approach to his music that’s a classic rock and roll outlaw album. There’s no cookie cutter music here. Henry and the B-team Band shine on the hard drivin’ “Faithful” that finds a lonely stranger murder his wife and her lover, and “Dance”, featuring the fabulous vocals of Texas Music chanteuse Jessica Murray. Her honey-sweet vocals perfectly compliment his whiskey-drenched drawl, in the album’s focal piece.

Henry seems to be consumed by love, as any of us should be. And he never ceases an opportunity when he has it. In the title track, he wants to leave it all behind, ‘won’t you take me away/to a life of places to go/and nowhere to be.’ And it’s love that gets embraced in the latter part of the album, after slowly waltzing away from his duet with Murray, Henry tackles jealously in “Watching Her”, assurance in “Let’s Go”, loneliness in “Detroit” which is the closest the album comes to any hint of country, and regrets with “Ties that Bind” that features Green and Morrow. Produced by David Neuhauser and Justin Pollard, these guys have put together an album that Texas Music has needed for sometime. Henry has outlined a roadmap of places he’s been and yet to be, and as much as he longs for home, he seems to be happier having “nowhere to be.” It’s safe to say that the B-team is an A-list rated band that damn well deserves to go anyplace they want to be. - roots highway

Bio

Robert Henry Bio

In the Spring of 2000, a single question put into motion what would become the Robert Henry Band. One of Robert’s friends asked him to put a band together and play at his crawfish party. The rest is history….

Now a full band, The Robert Henry Band can be found all over the Southwest. “I knew when the bookings began to steadily increase, it was time to step it up and begin to take my music seriously,” says Robert.

With his steadfast increase in fan-base, and venue after venue calling, Robert knew it was time to release an album.

Nowhere to Be, produced by Grammy nominated artists Justin Pollard and David Neuhauser of the Pat Green Band, culminated into Robert’s most successful expression of his music. “I am so proud of this album…I feel like it embodies my perspective of what Texas music represents,” says Robert.

“All of the songs on the album take me to a different place, but they all share my love for Texas.”

Currently Robert is releasing the single “Blue Canoe.” “This song jumped out at me…Even though it’s about Mississippi, I see it as a tune that feels like a weekend off in Austin.”

Although not written by Robert, “Blue Canoe” is one of the first songs he started out covering. “We definitely rocked it out as opposed to the original, by the band Blue Mountain, and I’ve had a ton of people tell me they like it that way.”

Given the excitement of the fans, there is no doubt that radio stations across Texas will be eager to get their hands on a copy.

With The release of his debut album, “Nowhere To Be”, Robert sees nothing but good things for the future. “I learned so much; working with David [Neuhauser] & Justin [Pollard], you just can’t help it. I mean, heck, those guys have been nominated for a couple of Grammy Awards and the list of people they’ve worked with is simply unbelievable. I think we’ve got a great product. I really think folks will have as much fun listening to it as we did making it.”

So far, the CD has gained steady momentum among fans and DJ’s alike. “I’ve had feedback from all over the state to New York & even Italy; I also heard that one DJ is currently spinning five tracks. It’s going to be really interesting to see what this thing can do.”
