Bio

The Roofhoppers met as three members of a klezmer quintet. After a period of studying and performing traditional klezmer music, they found a special chemistry as a trio, finding common ground in their love of all things quirky, folky and unique.

They began forging a new sound with their unusual instrumentation of mandolin/acoustic guitar, clarinet and acoustic bass. Through exploring their own original tunes, they quickly discovered a shared compositional aesthetic, and The Roofhoppers were born.

Each member being a formidable instrumental talent, they hail from diverse backgrounds in jazz, classical and bluegrass music. Their live performances are a captivating event, as the trio weaves in and out of each other with the interaction of a chamber ensemble, and the spontaneity of a jazz group.

They bring an exciting, improvisational spirit to each performance, ensuring that no two shows, or songs, are ever the same twice.
