Bio
The Rough Hewn Trio is comprised of Craig Bunch (drums), Chris Lavender (Chapman Stick / Warr guitar) and Scott Collins (guitar/loops).
The Rough Hewn Trio is your typical family drama played out in an instrumental format.
Scott Collins did his undergrad degree at Berklee. While still living in Boston he played in several groups - including Koven Smith's Rhythm Rangers with monster vibraphonist Chris Lavender.
After several years playing in Boston landmarks like The Bentmen, Sleepchamber and One of Us, Scott had the opportunity to study with Miroslav Tadic at CalArts and relocated to the West Coast. While at CalArts he became involved in several projects with bassist Daren Burns, One of those projects, Onibaba included monster drummer Craig Bunch. Craig and Scott started playing in other projects such as John "Drumbo" French (of Captain Beefheart fame), and a duo project known simply as Dumb and Drummer.
At an Onibaba show - Chris Lavender showed up - who was now at UCI persuing his own master's degree, and now playing touch style guitar instead of vibes. Scott capitalized on that immediately and got the two of them with Craig Bunch and the rest is simply falsehoods and innuendo.
