Bio
The Roundheels are a modern take on the pre war american string band tradition, influenced by old-timey, bluegrass, americana and British folk music. For a point of reference our sound fits in the cracks somewhere between more modern artists such as Old Crow Medicine Show, Uncle Earl, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Gillian Welch and Kate Rusby drifting back in time to good folks like Townes Van Zandt, Mississippi John Hurt, Doc Watson, Fairport Convention and Bob Dylan, then further back to early country blues and bluegrass pioneers such as Mississippi Sheiks, Cannon's Jug Stompers, Charlie Poole, Bill Monroe, The Stoneman Family and The Stanley Brothers. We were formed in 2006 from the cold ashes of Oxford's finest Electro Rock outfit 'Cargo Cult', also known as 'Arkov', active from 1999 - 2004. Quite a jump from Electro Rock to Folk and Bluegrass you might say but we've never been ones to plough one solitary furrow. Before Cargo Cult, The Roundheels were members of bands playing everything from ska, rock, prog, blues, hip hop and reggae. We're not hopping genres for the sake of it or without rhyme or reason though and we always have a genuine love of the music we play (and play music we do - it ain't work).
