"THE ROYAL ARTILLERY – The Royal Artillery EP"

Stoner rock is a hard sell as a genre, because all too often it is a refuge for bands who sound a bit like Kyuss and a bit like Queens Of The Stone Age, which is like playing both kinds of music: country and western. Fortunately, The Royal Artillery do not play country and western. They have a song called Nothing Personal that sounds like The National covering R.E.M. or possibly vice versa. Cactus and the other songs on this EP are more of your sludgy evocations of the Desert Of The Psychedelic, maybe sounding a bit like when they let Mark Lanegan take over QOTSA and drown one or two of their songs in his doomy voice. That’s a necessary move to let people know you are serious about this stoner rock business. As a nice bonus, The Royal Artillery’s songs come on a USB stick that is shaped like an artillery shell and also doubles as a keyring in peacetime.

Discography

A mixed bag of reasonably unknown and unobtainable Ep's and Singles!

We recorded our first EP, which was coined 'First EP' in 2006 but never released it. Various tracks have been spread around the www, mainly on myspace.

Our newest EP, called 'New EP' was realeased independently and self distributed in late 2010. It features track, 'Peace of Mine' which got stuck in the Roots top 25 for a month or so.

Then there's the yet to be released 'Live Ep', which was recorded at a familly owned ranch on the Sunshine Coast. Featuring tracks from 'New EP' and a couple newies, 'Blues' and 'Stoner' and a cover 'Sunny'- this some of TRA's best work so far.

Finally there's 'Rollin&Tumblin', an almost 7 minute single that was recorded in 3 x 4 hour sessions at JMC. No bass guitar was ever tracked, instead using a boss octave pedal for the low end. The song was mixed down at Empire Studios before being released exclusively thru TripleJunearthed. Played on numerous TripleJ programs, reviewed by Sarah Howells and reaching #63 overall, this has been TRA's biggest success so far.

Almost all of the above content is available on our Bullet USB. These things will get you kicked off planes and can be purchased right here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/theroyalartillery?sk=app_4949752878

Bio

The Royal Artillery is a heavily blues influenced, stoner-metal outfit. Based in Brisbane, the group has gigged and recorded locally since its inception in 2006. Originally a trio, the line-up has seen some change recently with the original drummer leaving in late 2010.

Having worked with the likes of Dallas Frasca and The Crusty Demons of Dirt, The Royal Artillery is well recognized in Brisbane’s progressive rock scene and has gigged with local bands such as The Kidney Thieves, Pink Bullet, The Moderns, Tijuana Cartel, New Manic Spree, Greenthief, Numbers Radio and Grand Atlantic.

2011 is set to be a big year for TRA; with a live EP and video clip set for release in mid 2011, you can expect to see this band bring their explosive live set to stages everywhere up and down the east coast.
