"The Royales to play at Getting Up When You've Been Knocked Down as they aim to be as big as U2"

Indie rock band the Royales are setting out to be the kings of the modern music era as they become hits on national airwaves.

The band, playing gigs for only six weeks, are confident they'll be the next big thing in the vein of U2.

In 2009, Daniel O'Connell (drums) returned to his home in Redbank after mixing with producers in Los Angeles.

``There is no band producing music catching people's ears anymore,'' O'Connell said.

``I came back to Australia and told my brother (Stephen, guitar) we should start a band.''

O'Connell recruited Tom Furby on bass, uncovering a ``whiz-kid from the coast'' by the name of Jacob Davis, after 40 frontman auditions.

Their single, Leave Me Something, has gone from No.365 to No.66 in four weeks on the Triple J Unearthed chart and sits at No.19 on the indie charts. ``We are heading overseas in March for a 10-month tour of the US and Europe,'' he said.

``Our style of music would be accepted in Europe, where we would get a record deal.

`` We will be in the same vein as U2.''

The Royales will be headlining Getting Up When You've Been Knocked Down, at Ipswich Central State School, on September 10.

Bio

The Royales formed in mid 2010 when Daniel O’Connell (drums) decided to make music with his brother Stephen following his return from the U.S. working with numerous bands and producers.

Shortly after their return, the brothers acquired the services of Tom Furby (Bass) and Jacob Davis (Vocals/Synth) and immediately began writing to produce music that could bridge the gap between pop and indie-Rock n’ Roll.

Since formation, The Royales have extensively toured Brisbane and following their emergence on the Gold Coast scene, look to expand their fan base interstate following the release of their debut E.P.

Be sure to catch The Royales at one of their upcoming shows, as they look to leave their mark on the Australian and international music scene.
