"Rumour Has It"

'Pick Of The Fortnight'
Tipperary five-piece 'The Rumours' have turned in a fine CD with the opening salvo 'Run & Hide' full of hard rocking melodic exhuberance and an engaging performance from vocalist Lorcan Lyons. 'The More That I Mean It' is another stomper, with backward guitars and another ace performance from Lyons on an appealing song from by guitarist Eoin Ryan. 'When The Sun Hits Your Eyes' shows a more reflective, acoustic approach and brings out the Del Amitri in them. More, please. - Jackie Hayden - Hotpress

"Big Indie Comeback Review"

The Rumours - Run & Hide

The opening guitar lick from Run And Hide immediately bring classic moments of The Cult to mind, but they don’t really follow that train of though for the most part. None the less, this is a big rock sound, all stadium choruses and anthemic roaring guitars. Luckily their singer has the lungs for it and keeps up as opposed to be dominated or left behind. In fact, by the end of this stirring song, you’re left thinking of Thin Lizzy more than anything else, and that’s a pretty high compliment.

- Dave Chislett

"The Rumours to rock Thurles"

Don't miss this chance to see this fantastic local band up close and personal as they appear at The Source, Thurles. Hotly tipped for great things, The Rumours have built up a formidable reputation in the music business for the energy of their live performances. so this is definitely a date for your diary if you like your music to be live, loud and delivered with plenty of attitude. - Tipperary Star

"The Rumours to launch debut single at The Source"

Tipperary band, The Rumours will be appearing at The Source Arts Centre, Thurles on Saturday 21st July to launch their debut single, 'Keep It Going', on Reekus Records. Highly regarded within the music industry, the band have been building their reputation over a period of time with some amazing high profile gigs like their 2006 Electric Picnic apperance, where they shared the stage with Graham Coxon and Josh Ritter. They have also been honing their recording skills with many great demos which included one being 'Pick of the Fortnight' in Hotpress.

The band stretch the boundaries of the traditional two guitar, bass and drums format to produce a sound that ranges from soft acoustic melodies to hard, riff driven, indie brit pop. Complimented by the strong vocal talents of Lorcan Lyons, this lineup can and does produce a sound that is the perfect antidote to a lot of todays manufactured pop and rock sounds.

It promises to be a spectacular event, with the lads pulling all the stops with what promises to be a fantastic alternative rock gig accompanied by an impressive light show. - Tipp Tatler

"The Rumours are all true"

In 2004 this five piece, vocalist Lorcan Lyons, bassist Nigel Grace, drummer James Phelan, guitarist Barry McLoughlin and vocalist & guitarist Eoin 'Bono' Ryan got together and put down some remarkable demos to date. A few of these songs have received airplay on National radio, the band were given a slot on the crawdaddy Stage at this years Electric Picnic, where Today FM's Alison Curtis announced them as best new band at the Picnic.

"It was a great experience to play on that kind of stage" says James Phelan. A stage they shared on the day with PJ Harvey and former Blur guitarist graham Coxon.
It's Blur's chief rivals in the Brit wars of the 90's, oasis who have had the bigger influence on The Rumours, as heard on songs like 'You're Fading Slowly' and the wonderfully high charged 'Destined For Nowhere'. ' Out Of Reach' takes off like Noel in acoustic mode, but rises above that standard thanks to some very nice harmony, while one of the bands finer tracks, 'When The Sun Hits Your Eyes', is the kind of rock stomper that Oasis would record today if only the Gallaghers had any imagination left.
But this might suggest that The Rumours are a one trick pony, and that wouldn't do. All members of the band contribute songs, and the wide spectrum of influences is clear. 'Run & Hide' shows more than a trace of Foo Fighters, 'Sweet Blossom' owes a big nod to Pink Floyd, and where some have said 'The More That I Mean It' brings out the Del Amitri in the band, it really plays more like a cross between Moving by Supergrass and Never Tear Us Apart by INXS.
Then there's 'Keep It Going', one of a number of bona fide Rumours anthems, another stomper of a track where you can almost hear Neil Young rocking it out. Echoes of Young's more melancholic folk musings can be heard on the acoustic, harmonica drenched 'All Alone', and even more clearly on the bittersweet 'Road To Redemption' - perhaps the band's finest song, a gorgeously melodic tip of the hat to Americana, showing off the kind of mature lyrical flair that may yet lift The Rumours above the rest of the pack. That the band has two particularly fine voices in Lorcan Lyons and Bono Ryan will no doubt help the cause.
Certainly the band is confident they're up to the task.
Says Bono: "We're well up for it, we all have faith in ourselves. and there's plenty more where those songs came from. The next step is to increase our fan base."
"Thats the whole idea," says James. "When someone that we've never even seen before sits back and says, 'This song inspires me.' That's what its about.
There's a pause, and then Bono adds: "We want to have a bit of fun aswell!" No doubt.
