"Dolls are lit up at last"

IT'S been some five years now since the Satin Dolls arrived on the local scene and the band have been working their way towards releasing debut album Illuminati.
The album was launched on Friday night at the Kasbah, and the gig showcased the new album in glorious fashion.
To be honest I have never seen them play a bad gig, but I think we were all a little aware that this gig, and the album, was a bit special.
This for me is how a rock band should look and sound. There’s axe victim Rob Wells thraping the life out of his Les Paul all to the delight of his ever-growing personal fan club.
While Adam Richard Burrows strutted his stuff like a good bassie and Seth Harris White on drums holding it all together at the back. Then there’s Julie Burrows – Julie is the ultimate rock chick, with a voice and looks to die for, plus a ruthless determination to drive this band onward at any cost.
Any band who can write songs the calibre of Walk Away and Tell Me, have the right to be listened to.
If you like your rock loud ‘n’ proud, then Illuminati is for you.
I asked Julie how she felt the Dolls have changed musically in five years?
“We have progressed dramatically since 2004,” she replied. “Honing our stage craft with endless gigging including a 72-date tour through 2007, which culminated in us being voted best unsigned female lead rock band in the UK.
“Our live shows are so energetic and in your face, that it’s hard for people not to affected by our energy. We are constantly told we are very infectious”.
I asked Rob, how he felt about the new album? He replied, “We are very excited about the new album as it has captured our live magic like no other recording before,” he said.
“In my opinion it has the raw energy and presence of acts such as Guns ’n’ Roses, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. I know it’s controversial putting it along side greats such as them. But the album speaks for itself. Let’s just hope we get signed and have career and sales that equals such legends.”
One festival the band is keen to play is their own Godiva Festival. Julie explained why it’s so important to them.
“The Satin Dolls have been an established Coventry band for more than four years. We have a wide following throughout the UK, but it is especially concentrated in the birth town of the band, Coventry. We, and our Coventry fans, truly feel that it is high time for The Satin Dolls to get a space on Godiva main stage this year.
“Our profile has grown significantly in Coventry over the last year and our new album tracks have been attracting about 1,500 online plays a day from Coventry kids.
“We had a successful sell-out album launch at the Kasbah last Friday and would love to give all our fans, (especially those not quite old enough to attend clubs) a chance to see us at Coventry’s biggest and best festival before we support Bullet for my Valentine and Alice Cooper this summer at Gathering in the Park in Wales.”
The Satin Dolls’ album and merchandise is available now at Bubble 21, The Burges, Coventry, and also Midnight Records in the Market!
The Dolls will also be at Coventy Market, doing a signing to help them celebrate their 10th anniversary on Saturday, February 28. There will be some special competition offers for those Satin Dolls fans purchasing albums on the day!
Fans can also hear the band on Martin Winch’s Introducing on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire on Thursday at 8pm. For more information, go to
