"The Scourge of the Sea"

"It's[MAKE ME ARMORED] touching and beautiful, recalling the softies at their best."

"You know how sometimes your body knows when you need more potassium, so you go have a bunch of bananas? Well, my ears were craving whatever minerals are in Scourge of the Sea."

"MAKE ME ARMORED Review"

"This is quietly sunny, acoustic-pop, framed in shadow, which has apparently eschewed watches, calendars, and clocks... for it's timeless."

"Paste Band of the Week"

"Make Me Armored is coherent and polished-full of well-crafted, ethereal tunes that say a lot with a few, impeccably chosen words." - Paste Magazine Online

"MAKE ME ARMORED"

"This is one album where the spellbinding vocals really will leave you enamored and shuddering in disbelief. How can humans create something as god-like as 'Waterwings'? Indie pop for those of us who still love dreamy atmospheres in our guitars and catchy hooks in our vocals." - Smother Magazine

"4 out of 5 Stars"

"The instrumentation on this album sounds so well put-together and the arrangements just make so much sense that it's hard to believe these songs haven't existed for thousands of years." - Harmonium Music

Bio

The Scourge of the Sea formed out of the chance meeting of Robby and Andrew, who happened to find themselves in the same old house in different apartments. Robby and Andrew's musical talents were not immeasurable, to say the least. They both had a love of simple melodies, smart and human songwriting, and the glory of pop music. The fact that neither were virtuosos at any instruments became the most attractive part of the band. Influenced by artists like The New Pornographers, Little Wings, Hayden, and the Flaming Lips, the two boys dug through old recordings and brand new ideas and fashioned a set of songs which were at once sugary and meaningful. Justin joined the band soon after and brough versatility and playfulness to the project, and The Scourge of the Sea began to develop a small, devoted following in Lexington and Louisville. This fanbase only continued to grow as the band came across more songs, new and old, covered artists from Tom Waits to Swearing at Motorists, and started making regional and national contacts. When approached by local label Paper Records about releasing a 7" single, the band accepted and released a singe for demo versions of "My Sweet One" b/w "Out of the Trash" in 2005. After signing to Alias Records in January of 2006, things began to happen even faster and more frequently. With the release of the band's first full-length album, Make Me Armored, slated for July 25, 2006, everyone is happy and everything is happening.
