"Greg Shadowcaster Solo E.P>"

A huge thanks to Invisible Invaders - the greatest horror zine there is - for allowing me to post this review!

Songs for the Undead review by Thea Triffid

Greg Shadowcaster's 8-song EP successfully encompasses the feeling and fright of early day B-movie horror and sci-fi film. It is ominous, humorous and full of death!

His solo debut is just guitar and vocals, but this in no way limits its catchy quality. The songs have a basic fifties rock and roll feel to them, yet their lyrical content is highly concentrated on the dead. This man loves the dead!!! I think I can say with confidence that I have yet to hear another CD with so much zombie content. This is a great thing for those who love the undead.

My favorite odes to zombies include, well... Zombies, which has a doo-wop flavor to it, as well as The Living Dead, which carries lots of WhoooOoos for the distinguished fiend and is just so damn haunting. Zombie Zoo is another fun song, and the backup vocals singing "zombie, zombie, zombie" over and over could actually be the moans of the living dead themselves.

This man knows how to harmonize with himself. Greg's vocals are deep and impressive. His crooning and musical style is reminiscent of Nuke and the Living Dead, or even Michale Graves in his Misfits days. Yet he keeps the vocals interesting with added reverb and tremolo performed in a classic horror-rock fashion.

Like former bands of the horror era, there is even a song about digging up a dead lover... Back from the Grave. But not all of Shadowcaster's songs are about the undead. He also has a couple of songs about aliens. One particularly romantic one is I Made Love to a Martian, which has a swing-styled beat to it and happens to be the longest track on this EP. At 1 minute and 21 seconds, I guess this could be a make-out song. There is also my favorite track, which is Day of the Centipedes, an apocalyptic ballad in which inevitably everyone will die.

Songs for the Undead is definitely a must-have for those who dig fifties horror and/or zombies. The songs are short, catchy and will keep you in stitches...

Be sure to keep an eye out for Greg's newly formed band The Screamagers. They promise plenty of thrills in the near future and will be conquering a plethora of other monsters in the near future

Bio

Hey Daddio!

Greg Shadowcaster is a Monster movie fan who rocks a 50's music sensibility with that spooky groovy feel that all the cats dig!

Zombie Steve hits the bass and yowls the howls.

Scary Chris smashes the skins and sings along.

Together they are the Screamagers!

A new band that came out of a benefit concert in late 2007. After a successful performance and with a mutual admiration of B movies and cheesy fun The Screamagers were born.

Their second practise gives us the 8 tracks on this site. Recorded in 2.5 hours complete with backing vocal tracks The Screamagers blast off with all the innocence of a different era with the passion of the modern age.

The members of the Screamagers have decades of ghastly rot 'n' roll experience under their belts.

Lead singer/guitarist Greg Shadowcaster fronted the '50s cover band the Shadowcasters.

Zombie Steve has played previously as front man/guitarist for Shake Appeal as well as many other projects in the Toronto punk rock scene.

Scary Chris has a long and varied past in the Toronto new wave/punk/country scenes. He has played with bands such as The Cads and Oh Those Pants. He also plays with new wave/country band The Lost Anglers.

The Screamagers leave no genre staple untouched: zombies, vampires, mummies, werewolves and giant insects are all paid tribute in their songs. Their fiendtastic and spooktacular tunes are best described as spoovy - a combination of spooky and groovy!
