The Scribblers

The Scribblers

BandRockPop

The music has pop sensibility, classic country overtones, and the occasional psychedelic explosion. Influences range far and wide—from the playful experimentation of Captain Beefheart, the melodic mindset of The Beatles, and the recent rise of modern indie rock to the cool lazy aura of Randy Newman.

Biography

The Scribblers began when Justin Turner—originally a singer/songwriter from Hot Springs, Arkansas—moved to Chicago, Illinois while searching for a more satisfying musical environment. What he found were four other equally talented singer/songwriters with very similar perspectives on music.

Dusty Monk, singer/songwriter for Chicago band "Root Shoot Leaf," signed on to play bass. Jesse H., formerly the singer/songwriter of Chicago band "The Pedals" (currently playing solo), became the second guitarist and group multi-instrumentalist. Arlin Peebles, singer/songwriter for Chicago bands "Makeway Motorcade" and "Cleanray," joined to play drums.

Their music has pop sensibility, classic country overtones, and the occasional psychedelic explosion. Influences range far and wide—from the playful experimentation of Captain Beefheart, the melodic mindset of The Beatles, and the recent rise of modern indie rock to the cool lazy aura of Randy Newman.

The Scribblers are currently self-producing their first album which is projected to release in December of 2007. However, with the help of their outstanding live show and the "Dirty Word Play Demo" recorded by Justin with limited resources in his bedroom, they have already begun to develop an established fan base in the Chicago area.

Lyrics

Little Box Blues

Written By: Justin Turner

Verse 1
I got a man. You can hold him in the palm of your hand, if you want.
He's a very small man.
He's always talking but love and the universe.
Fits in your mother's purse,
prays to the golden hurst.
ohhhhh...
He's a man.

Verse 2
He's got a box where he sleeps at my feet,
under lock
got a key
that I keep in my blue jeans.
He's always crying for freedom
claims I mistreat him
I said, "you got it better then anybody I've ever seen."
He's a man.

Chorus
Oh my little one
just lay your head upon my thumb
and chase your blues away
one day my bones will break
and you will be free

Verse 3
He's got a job it ain't going so well
polishing pennies from my wishing well
You know I pay him commission
but he keeps on bitching
for every dollar I get is a cent that he don't recieve
He's a man

Repeat Chorus

Outro
Little man in the palm of my hand

Arkansaw

Written By: Justin Turner

When I was young I thought the earth would give me everything I needed.
All I'd do is breathe the summer tress would weave their leaves around my feet and
take back to where I'm from,
where the whiskey tastes like wine.

Take me back to Arkansas.

My father used to say
I could avoid the grave
if I just held his hand and prayed the stars would form a daisy chain
but now the sky is black
the city lights wont let
the stars shine on me.
Take me back to where I'm from,
where the whiskey tastes like wine.

Take me back to Arkansas.

Vitamin Girl

Written By: Justin Turner

I know this girl.
Shes got death in her eyes.
Run tubes down her mouth round her fingers through her spine.
And I'll pump her full of vitamins to keep her alive.
I'll pump her full of vitamins help her survive.

The doctor says
it's all in her head
if she'd stand right up
in that hospital bed
she'd be fine
without his help or mine
she'd be fine
but she still got death in her eyes

(ooooooh)

I know this man
you know he doesn't exist
just stumbles around throwing crazy boy fists
at the stars
he says my lucks mine not yours
and he'll fight
till the planets they drop from the sky.

(oooooohhh)

You know vitamin girl
I talked about her earlier
well she was lying in her hospital bed with her head on her pillow, looking over the window ledge.

And this man he walked by, in the pouring rain, and he was muttering to himself but she couldn't make it out so she opened up her window and started screamin out.

She said,
Woo ooh ooh
The suns gonna shine
The suns gonna shine down

And the man with the problems who was walking in the rain, well the storm got to bad and he couldn't quite take it, so he headed for a building that he thought looked vacant, but there was a girl in the window, with death in her eyes, and she toook him by surprise when she started screamin out that life is worth living if you really think about it.

Woo ooh ooh
The suns gonna shine
The suns gonna shine down
