Bio

I was born in Vietnam, grew up in the Sierra Nevada foothills of northern California. I've lived in many different places, from Texas to Alaska to Oregon. I write songs and prose, and lately much of it is influenced by my heritage, looking back, love and longing, and hope of reconciliation. I live in Portland, OR and write and perform now as The Sea and The Mother. The music usually starts with a spare voice and guitar, or two-guitar setting.

I've published two books of fiction and self-released two solo folk albums. I played at SXSW in 2006. My latest project is a hybrid music-literary concept album, exploring two "geographies" - East and West - delving into my mixed-cultural roots. It will be released by Jaded Ibis Productions at some future date.

Influences: Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris, Sigur Ros, Olafur Arnalds
