"Meet Hip Hop Powerhouse Duo The Seige"

Back Story – Hip-hop duo The Seige command attention with the release of their highly anticipated double EP, Duality. The record delves into the symbiotic relationship between man and machine, traversing the worlds of trap, epic lyricism, and electronic-fused anthemic hip-hop reminiscent of Kanye West circa ‘07.

James “Taz” Conley (lyricist) and Riley “Goon” Taylor (producer) are the rambunctious masterminds behind the captivating flow and sensual beats reminiscent of legends such as Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Rage Against The Machine. Conley describes Duality as, “future meets past, biological meets technological.” Conley and Taylor complement each other’s talent without overpowering one another, creating an easy flow of symbiotic genius. “We are very accepting of each other’s creativity so when one of us has an idea, the other can easily see the vision and we’ll explore that world together.”

The Seige began their musical partnership as organically as one can: mutual friends. A few years following their move to California, the pair of friends brought up the idea of creating music together. Conley and Taylor were hesitant to bring up the topic of working together, both wanting to respect the others creativity. Eventually, the musical connection was made; “it ended up being so dope, we just decided to keep working and become a duo. It was a no brainer,” explains Taylor.

The lead single from the EP, “Back Up,” has already garnered praise from publications including Hip Hop DX, Good Music All Dayand Underground Hip Hop. Hip Hop DX described the track as an “adrenaline rush!” Their impressive resume includes having their music featured in movie trailers such as 12 Strong, Mission Impossible 6 as well as working with the NBA, NFL and Premier Soccer League. From performing at SXSW in Austin, Texas as well as the iconic Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles, The Seige has garnered a large fan base on social media where their videos have over 6 million views on YouTube and over 570k monthly listeners on Spotify.

The Hype Magazine got the duo to weigh in on a few things

From the outside looking in, who is The Seige crew?

We’re a hip-hop duo based in Los Angeles rearranging the face of today’s rap music. We’re hip-hop plastic surgeons.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

Music has been the only thing we’ve really cared about and stuck with throughout our lives. It’s been a kind of escape for us which turned into a way of life, a way to make a living and more importantly, connect with fans who love our expression.

What do you want people to get from your music?

We want people to feel empowered by our music. We don’t want you to just bob your head (even though it’s inevitable), we want you to take something away from it. We want to create an experience for our listeners and hopefully have them start looking at life and themselves differently, even long after the song ends.

Tell us about your current project Duality!

The current project is themed around duality, particularly, the relationship between biology and technology, past and future. The world is changing more and more every day and human beings are moving into a new technological age so it’s really the story of all of us. Our new single, “Back Up” is the first drop off of the new project and we’re really excited for listeners to check it out.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

The song “Pe$os” from our upcoming double EP (releasing on January 10, 2019) perfectly highlights both of our styles and personalities. It’s the result of us sitting down to write a song with no objective in mind. Just total creative freedom.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

We both have similar interests and hobbies. Fashion plays a big role in our lives inside and outside of music, fitness and health of course, video games, books, movies, women, and FOOD.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

Probably the time we dressed up as Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton for the music video for our song “Boing Boing.” The resemblances were uncanny. Also, this is the only time we’ll ever use the word “uncanny”.

Duality is now available for download and streaming on music platforms worldwide. Keep an eye on The Seige by checking out their website TheSeige.com or Youtube channel. You can also follow them on Instagram and Facebook @TheSeigeMusic.

"Hip Hop Duo The Seige Drop Rambunctious "Back Up" Single"

LOS ANGELES, CA – Hailing from Los Angeles, up-and-coming rapper/producer duo James “Taz” Conley and Riley “Goon” Taylor are The Seige. And “Back Up” is their new HipHopDX-premiered single.

The adrenaline rush of a record is the first taste of what will be the musical makeup of their forthcoming double EP, Duality.

“We paired that energy with some futuristic sound designed to complement the animalistic natures of the vocals,” Taz tells DX. “The primal drumbeats married with the vocal promise of pushing the limits, encourages listeners to push their limits as well.”

Goon adds, “We are very accepting of each other’s creativity so when one of us has an idea, the other can easily see the vision and we’ll explore that world together.”

The two-man energy factory have been working hard at music people want to hear, evidenced from having their craft has had their music featured in a handful of commercial campaigns such as EA Sports’ FIFA18, Tesla, Cleveland Cavaliers and movie trailers for Blindspotting, Officer Down, among others.

Bio

Hip hop artist James “Taz” Conley and producer Riley “Goon” Taylor are the electric new hip hop duo The Seige. After following different paths to the City of Angels, Taz and Goon found each other and started their initial collaboration. Their first 3-song project was released independently in 2015, ACT I: WasteLAnd. It’s success proved the strength of their partnership, and they’ve gone on to release three additional EPs: ACT II: SinisterACT III: Atomic, and most recently ACT IV: Awake

Their music resounds, characterized by energetic, drumming beats, and aggressive, pounding, and motivating vocals. The duo cites such musical influences as Jay Z, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem among a host of other rap, hip-hop, R&B, alternative, and rock artists. A very diverse and eclectic personal playlist of artists can be heard in the creative tracks the duo has released. Taz vocalizes his frenetic lyrics to exciting arrangements pulling from hip hop to dance/pop to even some country highlights and other surprises.

They’ve independently published several EPs, singles, and videos online, where their music can be streamed on all the major sites including Apple Music, Google Play, Spotify, SoundCloud, and Tidal. Their music has gained wide fan recognition on YouTube, where their posted songs and videos have over 6 million views. Over 1 million visitors respectively have listened to “Prime” and “The Drum” on the site. Taz and Goon, both self-described health freaks, are also known for sharing their workout playlist on Spotify with their social media followers and on their website.

The Seige has performed at SXSW in Austin, Texas, as well as the iconic Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles, among many other venues. They’ve also collaborated on several song and video projects with pop sensations Cheat Codes, including “Natalie Portman” and “Monsters Are Everywhere”.

The group has had its work featured in major commercial, video game, and movie projects as well. When the Cleveland Cavaliers set out to announce their new team uniform design in 2017, they included The Seige’s song “Animal” on their video. Popular VLOGGER Logan Paul used “The Drum” on several of his posts in 2017, and that same song was used in commercials done by Under Armour, the Detroit Lions, Verizon Wireless, and Marvel Studios. The group’s music has been included in movie trailers such as 12 Strong and 50 Shades Darker, as well as some major video game trailers including Fortnite, Elex, and Fifa 18.

Most recently, their music was highlighted on MTV’s The Challenge: Vendettas, on which the group was also cited as a featured artist.

Merging the words SEIZE and SIEGE, The Seige hopes to grasp people’s attention and barrage them with a strong message of positivity that can help overcome negative thoughts and promote healthy perspectives on life. Ultimately, the duo is driven to create musical experiences that can motivate and inspire people to reach their fullest potential and not be constrained by the limits the world tries to impose. For them, it’s all about the impact their music can have, one person at a time. That mission infuses the vocal and rhythmic push of their in-your-face style, a demand to wake up, pay attention, and empower yourself to achieve and succeed.

The Seige’s songs are available for purchase on Bandcamp and iTunes. Fans can follow the group on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and join their e-newsletter at their website www.TheSeige.com
