The Senate

The Senate. Five talented artists/musicians that compose, arrange, record and perform original music began when Michael reached out to "the best of the best" of Five Towns College, as he described it. He asked Benny and Russ to perform at the annual Hip-Hop concert. Benny reached out to David for bass and Russ called in Steve for guitar, and after only a few rehearsals they performed what some students and faculty have said to be “the most astounding performance of their college career."

Inspired by the success of that show and their access to a professional yet relaxed recording environment at Get Open Studios (Holbrook, NY), they embarked on a pursuit of musical expression and committed themselves to a one day a week recording-binge in 2007. Now with an archive of original songs freshly mixing New York culture from Lower East Side and the BX to parts of Eastern Long Island, The Senate is ready to release their first independent project "RETURN TO DEMOCRACY." This album is influenced by the rock upbringings of guitar players Russ and Steve, built on the jazz and urban drive of Benny’s elaborate approach to rhythmic structure, negotiated by D-Bass' soulfull r&b style, and sustained throughout the seven record EP by the powerfully poignant and melodic rap lyrics of Mykel. These figurative “Senators” are your representives of this generation, with a grasp on its dreams of social, musical and political reform, using a fresh unconventional outlook on popular music that displays new genres of New York City and Long Island's Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, R&B and Soul musical styles.
