Bobby Curtola and The Sensational Hot Rods
Thunder Bays’ 50’s Rock and Roll tribute band The Sensational Hot Rods opened a new entry in the journal of Canadian music history this weekend in Winnipeg Manitoba. They kicked off the first of many tour dates scheduled with Canadian 50’s Rock and Roll legend, Bobby Curtola.
Steve ‘Eljer’ Clark, proud leader of the Sensational Hot Rods states, “In a sea of impersonators we emerged as a tribute band and with our combined talent have managed to assemble a great authentic show in honor of this sensational golden age of music. In addition to this we now have paid meticulous attention to the details of Bobby’s music and the audience appreciation is overwhelming. Bobby not only shared the stage highlight moments with the band, he also stayed and signed autographs for at least two hours after every show. Bobby Curtola is indeed ‘the real thing’.
The performance was held in the ‘Music Bowl Theatre’ at the Club Regent Casino, a world-class stage in an innovative facility. The show sold out both nights and received standing ovations respectively. The crowd was thrilled and sang along with the timeless classics made famous by Bobby. The Sensational Hot Rods’ on-stage antics and choreography mixed well with Bobby’s energetic personality. A heartwarming aside between Bobby Curtola and Tommy Milestone Horricks caught them reminiscing about a conversation on a Port Arthur hillside, dreaming about being musicians back in their public school days. The story and ironic ending with Bobby and Tommy performing on the same stage these many years later, ended with a hug, a few tears in the audience and a great round of applause.
Bobby first met and performed with ‘The Sensational Hot Rods’ in September of 2003 when The City of Thunder Bay, honored Bobby Curtola by naming a street in Marina Park as ‘Bobby Curtola Drive’. The chemistry between Bobby and the band was immediately apparent and larger plans were put in the works starting with the now already successful Winnipeg show.
The Sensational Hot Rods will be appearing on Wednesdays at Scuttlebutts Bar and Grill starting February 18th onward. They fly to Regina for the weekend with Bobby and will continue to play for Thunder Bay audiences until a proposed international tour is coordinated and worked into the already full schedule the Sensational Hot Rods had previously contracted. The Sensational Hot Rods wish to express their appreciation to the City of Thunder Bay for the support and look forward to seeing many of you at Scuttlebutts on Wednesdays.

The Sensational Hot Rods have four CD's 'Tribute to the 50's' is a mix of hot hits from the 50's with a sprinkling of great new originals in the 50's style.
'Cruisin' with the Hot Rods' an all original 50's style recording with a lot of saxophone.

Sensational Hot Rod Christmas contains a mix of traditional Christmas tunes along with some great new original Christmas songs.

This is a fully produced 50's showband with all of the bells and whistles. A lot of attention is paid to detail in the music and the show is fully choreographed. The Sensational Hot Rods dress for the occasion with complete with full changes. Their concerts are visually action packed and at a dance, the dancefloor is always full from the beginning to the end!
