Biography

The Sermon! is a high energy, 4 piece instrumental band from the borough of West Chester PA.

Since their inception in '05, The Sermon! has had the honor and priviledge of playing with the legendary "Papa John" DeFrancesco, as well as the members of The Sermon's extended musical family.

Deriving their name from the classic Jimmy Smith album title, The Sermon! is best characterized as a Hammond B-3 Organ-driven group in the vein of improv-saturated soul, funk, & jazz. As well as incorporating their own original material, the tunes in a typical Sermon set range from from the catalogs of Grant Green, Lonnie Smith, & Jimmy Smith, to unexpected revisits of more contemporary work.
