The Shakes are a four-piece soul and rocknroll revival band from small-town Alabama forming in May of 2009.
With not much to do and a shared love for the gritty soul and growling rocknroll of yesterday, The Shakes have been doing some interesting things with the genres. Its reminescent of something you've heard before, but it's not at all like you remember. Each track has its own unique hook, each song sends the listener reeling through the highs and lows with straight-to-the-point sincerety. You can almost hear the Alabama red clay being kicked up from beneath their
feet as they stomp out tales of the human experience in the South. In only two-years time, The Shakes are quickly spreading out from their humble beginnings and have developed a truely engaging and exciting sound that they gladly share to all who will listen.
It is powerfully soulful vocals belting melodies on
the verge of desperation. It is gospel music ignited and rocknroll revisting its glory years. It is deliciously deep basslines locked in tight with the drums to form a funky rhythm section. It is both the sweet and bitter tonalities being battered from the guitars to attack you. There are songs here that transcend traditional soul and rocknroll music. It is music that celebrates and expresses the resolve, the spirit, the hopefulness and the simplicity of that which they know best: themselves.
The Shakes are dynamo live performers who turn heads and grab attention wherever they land. They have yet to discover an audience who hasn't been moved by the raw energy and charged presence they create in a live setting. One truely doesn't know The Shakes until you have seen them thrive on the stage where the foursome become wildly powerful by treating their listeners not as an audience, but as a fellowship where the sermon is an electrifying rock and soul
revival. It is certainly something else to witness.
More recently, the group is very excited to announce that their debut album is scheduled for release by the end of Novemeber 2011.The group is working harder than ever to bring the sounds that were forged out of a small blue house in rural Alabama to your homes and to the homes of your
neighbors.
