Biography

From the strange and rural Vashon Island comes The Shirks, a three piece original rock band that is adventurous and distinctive.

The Shirks music has an intimate feel, taking the listener on a late night road trip down America’s forgotten byways. From hypnotic ballads to cathartic rock, their songs bring to life characters and places that you won’t soon forget.

The Shirks are fronted by singer, songwriter, and bass player, Allison Shirk. Her soulful vocals and commanding stage presence make her right at home in a rural roadhouse or back alley speakeasy. Guitarist and songwriter Brad Shirk has an edgy and unaffected sound with vintage rock flair. Drummer Eddy J rounds out this uncommon trio with monster grooves and jazz player panache. Their complete sound comes together in a seamless bond of musicality.

The band is currently booking gigs around the Northwest to raise money for their first full length album.

Lyrics

Jimmy

Written By: Allison Shirk

Jimmy came home late last night
Blood on his shirt and eyes not right
Said some man forced a fight
Jimmy came home late last night

And he said, “I could try to tell you something but the words don’t come that easy when you’re trying to be a man. And I could try to explain myself, but it just has more meaning if I sit and hold your hand.”

Jimmy’s gonna turn himself in
Try to explain what happened
It may be first fight he can’t win
But Jimmy’s gonna turn himself in

And he said, “I could try to tell them something but they never believe the truth when you look like I do. And I could try to explain myself but I can’t even explain myself to you.”

Jimmy came home late last night
Jimmy came home after a fight
Somebody’s dead and he just might
Not come back tomorrow night.

Grey Skies

Written By: Allison Shirk

It's not the grey skies that cause me pain
Pushing the sun astray
It's that you are so far away

It's not the little things that make me mad
When there's so little time that we have
It's that you are wanted so bad

In the kitchen, Saturday
We'll send the kids outside to play
And I'll remind you of my charms
Slow dancing in your arms

And when you tell me we'll never part
That is was meant to be from the start
Oooh, that's my heart...you break my heart.

Let You Go

Written By: Allison Shirk

Say you love me and then you dress
Make me feel like I’m some kind of test for you
Don’t you take it down the road
You’re gonna have to tear out my heart if you think I’m gonna let you go.

You know so many times that I have tried
But what’s the point if you’re just going to get high
Don’t you take it down the road
You’re gonna have to tear out my heart if you think I’m gonna let you go.

I could beg you baby, I could plead
I’m asking you honey down on my knees baby
Don’t you take it down the road
You’re gonna have to tear out my heart if you think I’m gonna let you go.
I said you’re tearing out my heart but I’m not gonna let you go.
