Music’s newest power-trio sensation, ‘The Shrinks,’ entered this cosmic sphere in August 2006, hatched in a tiny West Seattle rehearsal studio amidst amps, speakers, empty bottles and piles of old Duran Duran albums. Shrinks founder Eric Englehorn (“EE”) was tired … tired of writing brilliant songs destined for an audience of one (his wife Christina) & and tired of constantly being asked by his music-loving friends ‘hey man, when are you going to start a band and play these songs live?’ Thusly, The Shrinks were born. EE knew that in order to make his vision a reality, he needed to find the perfect accompaniment. His first call was to longtime friend and Los Testosterones band mate Chris Geer (“Buzz”) to step in on bass. The two shared a long musical history & sensibility. To round out the band, EE’s first choice for a drummer was Josh Tocheny (“Papa Toch”) … the two had shared a great musical connection for 2 ½ years while playing in the 5-piece Tijuana Taxi. Unfortunately, the timing was not right as Papa Toch was tied up with another band. Undaunted, EE & Buzz worked with several drummers, crafting songs and polishing their signature sound, secretly hoping that Papa Toch would become available. In Jan. of 2007 EE got the call: Papa Toch had severed ties with his old band and would join The Shrinks in time to rehearse for & record their first demo. It took only one rehearsal for the trio to realize they had something special … they carried the enthusiasm of that first rehearsal into the studio in Feb 2007. The resulting 4-song demo garnered much praise & fostered a growing sense of anticipation for their July 2007 full-length. Musically, the band pays homage to 'October' era U2, Radiohead and Doves, while incorporating the 80s touch of bands like Men Without Hats and New Order. But The Shrinks are definitely not some retro-nostalgia act, but play inspired post-millennium pop rock. EE’s heartfelt vocals and shredding guitar-like keyboard, Buzz’s creative bass licks and Papa Toch’s thunderous beats create the distinctive sound that is The Shrinks.
