Four NYC-based emerging singer/songwriters have joined forces as a performing group called The Side Project. Jenny Bruce, Karen Jacobsen
Jennifer Marks and Amy Speace oroginally met through the highly acclaimed artist collective UrbanMuse, which was begun in 2000 with the goal of creating a supportive community in the harsh artistic environs of Manhattan. The Muses met monthly in each other's apartments to share new works and industry information and naturally progressed into a rotating "in the round" show of it's 8 original members, drawing raves from audiences and critics, venues and college bookers. However, the task of juggling the schedules of 8 highly in-demand artists proved daunting. While performing as a Club Showcasing Act at the 2002 NACA Northeast Conference, an undeniable magic occurred when Jenny, Jennifer, Karen and Amy stepped onto the stage together, and the combination of 4 outstanding voices, songwriters and instrumentalists proved electric and absolutely unique.
Between them. the women of The Side Project have won the biggest songwriting awards (USA, John Lennon, Billboard, Windrift, UK Songwriting Competition), appeared on national and international television, charted on college and AAA radio, and performed throughout the US, Europe, Asia and Australia. Not just another songwriter's round, The Side Project is a rare meshing of styles -- it's a veritable Lilith Fair of its own!
