Although a relatively new group, The Side Tracks has deep roots and experience in the New York City rock music scene:
Guitarist extraordinaire Oscar Bautista has cut his teeth on everything from rock to funk to R&B to soul in his more than eight years on the club circuit. Bautista, a native New Yorker from the city’s upper west side, is one of the scene’s most in-demand session players, having backed such stars as Norah Jones and, most recently, the incomparable Gloria Estefan during her fall 2005 TV book publicity tour.
Bassist and vocalist Mark Rinzel took the acclaimed Neon Thrills to new heights and popularity while forging that group’s aggressive classic rock style. One part Kinks and two parts adrenaline, the Thrills were always on the cusp of breakthrough stardom while being a solid and sought-after club act. Rinzel remains an integral part of the critically acclaimed Losers Lounge, Joe McGinty's hugely popular tribute act whom the Village Voice calls “A cunningly choreographed showcase where strong-piped inhabitants of the music-biz fringe can escape the vexation of selling themselves in a buyers market”.
Stellar Guitarist and Vocalist Frank Palmeri is an acclaimed singer/songwriter and can be seen gigging in NYC with his original band Self Human. The Humans were described by NY Newsday as “Weaving funk and blues threads that move an audience for days”. Most recently Palmeri has had the pleasure of working with Steely Dan Alumni Guitarist Jon Herington.
The Side Tracks grew out of the Led Zeppelin Tribute band The Back Door Men as Rinzel, wanted to expand the tribute to include all of his favorite modern and classic Rock influences. He enlisted the help of fellow band mates, Bautista and Palmeri, to create an exciting guitar team that would cover every riff, lick and solo. As the band began rehearsals they recruited New York Veteran Drummer Rodney Ledbetter and so the mold was cast.
The band performs with preciseness, confidence and prides itself on reproducing the sound and vibe of all these great songs. The repertoire consists of modern contemporary favorites as well as all the timeless classics that everyone recognizes (see Set list page). Whether it’s a club, bar, party or any kind of special event The Side Tracks are a great choice for a jolt of fun and good Rock N Roll.
