Bio

Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, rap duo The Sidewayz is looking to push the creative barriers typically found in mainstream hip hop to their breaking point. The bands two members, Havier Green and Stebo Da Souf, both cite a wide range of musical influences for their songs’ innovative subject matter. “When we formed The Sidewayz we knew that we wanted to make music that was just as cool and different as our favorite artists,” explained Havier, 22 “It just so happens that a lot of our favorite artists aren’t rappers. “ Still, the two MCs effortlessly blend their creative concepts within witty verses and catchy hooks that are sure to win over the most hard core hip hop fans. “Hip Hop is still our first love” added Stebo, 24 “so all of the weird ideas we try are camouflaged inside of these really good rap songs.”
The results are songs like “Yoshimi & Me” a spinoff of The Flaming Lips psychedelic rock hit Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots where Havier and Stebo take turns smoothly detailing their sexual encounters with their robot girlfriends before the song breaks into a spoken word poem a la Outkast circa Aquemini. The sci-fi feel of the song is boosted by production from native Memphian T-Mix, who has supplied beats for several rap heavyweights including an ascending Lil Wayne (The Carter II, Like Father Like Son) and Memphis hip hop legends 8Ball and MJG. T-Mix produced the lion’s share of the duo’s first album, the upcoming SocialPopArt, after hearing songs from their first mixtape, Endless Summer, released earlier this year. Endless Summer is an unapologetic flaunt of raw talent by the two rappers who insisted on putting 22 tracks on the mixtape despite the opinion of several music insiders.
“Very early on we realized that everyone would have an opinion on what’s right” Havier explained “but in the end we decide what is Sidewayz.”
The Sidewayz is a reference to Southside High School which the two attended together. It is also the most fitting word to describe an overall attitude that the two evoke through their art.
