Bio

Calgary band 'The Silent Auction' play a brand of rock that is not of this decade. Back in the mid-to-late 1990's, bands like Braid, Jimmy Eat World, Mineral, Mock Orange, and many others played music that was earnest and exciting, energetic and emotional. Some people called these bands 'emo,' but before the concept of genre devotion, most people at the time called them indie rock. The Silent Auction just called them 'good' and took it upon themselves to resurrect this perceived archaic period in music and make it relevant to the young'uns of a new generation.

The Silent Auction broke onto the Calgary scene in 2005 with their self-titled EP, quickly engaging the crowds with melodic guitars and sing-along vocals. In 2006 they issued their second release, the full-length "This Doesn't Take Up Very Much Space," on Lost Records. This sophomore effort charted on CJSW radio, and was described as "a sprawling, challenging, beautiful, bizarre, clusterfuck of creativity and spit-soaked passion, the likes of which hasn't been seen around these parts in years" by Nerve magazine, and "energetic, up-tempo indie-rock (think the melodic sensibilities of Mineral with the off-kilter exuberance of Cap’n Jazz)" by Beatroute magazine.

After playing with drummer Philip Cimolai for the better part of three years, he decided on an amicable split from the band. To fill the vacuum, (a vacuum many Canadian bands are intimately familiar with) they recruited Tyler Pickering, an experienced trapman and member of many influential Calgary Bands, including: Guilt Trip, The Failure., and The Ramblin' Ambassadors. The rest of the band's lineup includes original members composed of brothers and lifelong best friends: Guitarists/Vocalists Iain Law and Paul Baker, and Bassist/Vocalist Ian Baker.

Recently, The Silent Auction has been gearing up for a western Canadian tour in the summer of 2007, ready to embark on their journey to bring the spirit of the mid 90's to Canadian fans that are in desperate need of some hope in this blasted musical landscape. Bon Voyage.
