Bio
The Simple Groove is comprised of James Thompson’s acoustic guitar and the vocals of Chelsea Stiles. Based on influences that span contemporary folk to modern jazz, the brother-sister duo fuses rhythmic guitar, smooth vocals, and poignant lyrics into a sound that captivates their listeners.
The Brother: James
- Plays the acoustic guitar, mouth organ, and foot box.
- Lives in the city in a two-room apartment with his fiancé, her two cats, a gecko, and some fish.
- Enjoys independent music without bias to genre.
- Is currently employed by a company where he is required to wear a suit.
The Sister: Chelsea
- Sings, does percussion here and there, and is currently learning the violin.
- Lives in the country on ten acres of land with her husband, two cats, and two Saint Bernards.
- Enjoys folk singers, singer songwriters, jazz, and electronica.
- Is currently employed by a company where she is only sometimes required to wear a suit.
Together: The Simple Groove
The music James and Chelsea write portrays the people and places around them--working class towns, their tales and adventures, and the struggles and happiness they’ve seen their friends and family endure. As the songs they create become a part of them, they also evolve into stories that people can relate to.
In 2005 The Simple Groove carried out the hard work they had been putting into their musical careers by recording and releasing their first full-length album. Entitled Coming Up Slowly, the album draws in its listeners by combining an innovative folk guitar sound with a smooth, delicate voice.
