Bio
Writing and performing has always been a natural inclination for singer/songwriter The Sistah. Born into an artistic family, her maternal grandparents sang in a lounge act while her mother and fathers talents ran the gamut from writing, singing, fine arts as well as stints in the theatre and network television. Her writing and singing developed in grade school, as she wrote poetry and sang in her grade school choir. Throughout high school and college, she continued her maturation as a songwriter, penning songs about love gained, lost and everything in between.
The Brooklyn, New York native incorporates personal life experiences and interpersonal relationships into her writing. Her sometimes risque approach in songs about life, love and heartache are masked by her bright smile, bubbly spirit and innocent demeanor.
The Sistahs sultry, at times smoky tone and style have been compared to classic performers such as Sade and Anita Baker and contemporary ones such as Kelis and Goapele.
The Sistahs first single Brooklyn Was Beautiful was featured on MTVs Real World: Brooklyn. The acoustic ballad was followed by her mid-tempo single One. Both songs were produced by Ironhorse Music Groups in-house production team, The Aqua League and showcase The Sistahs singing and songwriting capabilities.
The Sistah influences range from Coco Taylor, Amel Larrieux and Phyllis Hyman to Seal, Lenny Kravitz, Caron Wheeler, Stevie Wonder and Gil Scott-Heron.
