"Pick Of The Fortnight"

The Skin We're In we're chosen by Jackie Hayden as his Pick Of the Fortnight in Hot Press Magazine (June 08). Here's what Jackie had to say:

'Newry-based-five-piece The Skin We're In are heading straight down the pop-rock line with a no-nonsense approach based on smart arrangements of fine tunes. 'Something To Prove' shows them trading in a brand of mainstream contemporary rock tinged with elements of soul, jazz and funk, with minor nods to Sly and the Family Stone and Prince. 'What Is The Answer' offers more of the same, but 'Our History' opens with a superbly atmospheric keyboard and the slowness of the track brings out the best in singer Cricky Markey's vocals. Although the rest of the band can do their jobs admirably, they could be less static on stage, while in frontman and songsmith Markey, they have a confident talent we'd do well to keep an eye on'.

Bio

Hailing from Newry, Co Down, Northern Ireland. The Skin We're In was formed in late Jan 07 when singer/songwriter Chris "Cricky" Markey joined forces with 4 like minded musicians/ friends and formed a 5-piece band that together would help him deliver his prolific music to the masses.

The Skin We're In are purveyors of contemporary rock infused with soul, jazz and funk licks drawing from diverse influences from Tom Waits to Prince. ‘The Reason Why’ captures the edgy, energetic feel of their live show – raw vocals, rich with melody, driving rhythms, and raucous guitar hooks. "I LIKE IT go mór. Cool vocals. Iontach" Liam Ó Maonlaí (Hothouse Flowers).

Their energetic, soulful live shows highlight how Jarly (Keys/Backing Vox), Fergie (Drums/Backing Vox), Dave (Bass), Gavan (Guitar) with Cricky at the helm (Lead Vox), effortlessly deliver from a catalogue of over 70 songs written and recorded over the past year.
The band (so called as a nod to a track by funk royalty “Sly & The Family Stone”) are going from strength to strength – paying their dues as they gig the length and breadth of the country. “It’s only a matter of time before things happen for this band!" Roddie Cleere, WLR FM

Their latest album 'The Meaning Of Myth' was completed in Jan 2008 and to date they have released a number of singles and downloads including ‘Something To Prove’ which has featured on several nationwide radio stations including Phantom FM, U105 FM, WLRFM and BBC Radio Ulster. The song has also received airplay on XFM London, which led to the band being named one of XFM’s Uploaded winners. A stripped down version of ‘What Is The Answer?’ was recently performed on Balcony TV.

2008 sees them build on that momentum with the band set to perform at Spring & Airbrake on March 20th with further plans to invade a stage near you this summer.
“There is tremendous power and soul in our music. We are extremely passionate musicians and this comes across in our live performance. Gigging is what we are all about”, enthuses frontman Cricky.

A nationwide tour is planned for this summer to coincide with their forthcoming EP due for release in September. No doubt this year will see The Skin We're In truly get under the skin of the nation. It’s gonna be a crazy year! We’re In. Are You?!
