Bio

With the aptly titled full length debut effort “The View from Here” set for an Australian national release through Reverberation in February 2006, The Slides have hit the ground running with an unapologetic yet earnest look at life, love and everything in between. A true feat for this talented trio, whose soul-selling antics have seen them literally crossing borders in an unorthodox departure from the standard EP for a first independent release.

In the twelve months since their formation, this tireless threesome have hit the streets bringing their enigmatic sound and adult-alternative, indie rock style to their seasoned band of fans. Combining a healthy dose of barefaced honesty, with a modern pop sensibility, The Slides have drawn an evident influence from the likes of Neil Finn, Coldplay, Wilco, and Radiohead.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Damon Fealy likens the bashful bunch of blokes to “a band that would try to be cool if we thought we could” and muses that if they could have, The Slides would have ideally released the album on vinyl. Its no secret that this old school mentality is a reflection of the bands core philosophy, sounded out in their laid-back, 11 track debut.

“The View from Here” recorded in Brisbane by ARIA winning engineer Dave Neil, and mixed at the legendary Rockinghorse Studios by Anthony Lycenko (Pete Murray, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Moloko) is no amateur effort.

Featuring the unquestionable talent of Damon Fealy (lead vocals/guitar) Lincoln Retallack (bass/vocals) and Michael Grabbe (drums/vocals) you wont find these three lads lax in commitment or ability, having worked alongside some of the music industry’s local luminaries and international idols, including Blondie, Taxiride, Jimmy Barnes, Ice Cream Hands, The Anyone’s, Diesel…the list goes on.

The band are touring the middle east in December 05/ January 06 and then returning to launch their album to their antipodean fans!
