The Slides

BandAlternativeAdult Contemporary

The Slides’ chiming guitars, soulful harmonies and often sweetly painful lyrics evoke a flashback to a better time. Combining a healthy dose of their upbringing with an uncanny modern pop sensibility, The Slides are a sound apart.

Biography

With the aptly titled full length debut effort “The View from Here” set for an Australian national release through Reverberation in February 2006, The Slides have hit the ground running with an unapologetic yet earnest look at life, love and everything in between. A true feat for this talented trio, whose soul-selling antics have seen them literally crossing borders in an unorthodox departure from the standard EP for a first independent release.

In the twelve months since their formation, this tireless threesome have hit the streets bringing their enigmatic sound and adult-alternative, indie rock style to their seasoned band of fans. Combining a healthy dose of barefaced honesty, with a modern pop sensibility, The Slides have drawn an evident influence from the likes of Neil Finn, Coldplay, Wilco, and Radiohead.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Damon Fealy likens the bashful bunch of blokes to “a band that would try to be cool if we thought we could” and muses that if they could have, The Slides would have ideally released the album on vinyl. Its no secret that this old school mentality is a reflection of the bands core philosophy, sounded out in their laid-back, 11 track debut.

“The View from Here” recorded in Brisbane by ARIA winning engineer Dave Neil, and mixed at the legendary Rockinghorse Studios by Anthony Lycenko (Pete Murray, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Moloko) is no amateur effort.

Featuring the unquestionable talent of Damon Fealy (lead vocals/guitar) Lincoln Retallack (bass/vocals) and Michael Grabbe (drums/vocals) you wont find these three lads lax in commitment or ability, having worked alongside some of the music industry’s local luminaries and international idols, including Blondie, Taxiride, Jimmy Barnes, Ice Cream Hands, The Anyone’s, Diesel…the list goes on.

The band are touring the middle east in December 05/ January 06 and then returning to launch their album to their antipodean fans!

The View from Here

Written By: Damon Fealy

Seven months waiting on a fifteen minute conversation
Eleven days later still awake sitting on my own
And you’ll be gone and I’ll be here
It’s such a daft equation

But the view from here is more than I anticipated
A picture perfect painting
Of all the things we heard about and want to see in
The view from here

Thought about knocking on your door to find my own salvation
Thought about knocking on your door find my peace of mind
But you’re still gone and I’m still here
It’s still a daft equation

But the view from here is more than I anticipated
A picture perfect painting
Of all the things we heard about and want to see in
The view from here

And the view from here is more than I anticipated
A picture perfect painting
Of all the things we’ve heard about
And all the things we want to see
The things we’ve heard and talk about
About the view from
The view from here

...and Back To You

Written By: The Slides

The thought of you sweetens my palate
Like the scent of rain on a hot and dusty day
I’m climbing the walls in my blue pajamas
Thinking out loud

Moving on back to my point I am taking on
The challenge of putting down love into words
In language inadequate
For these thoughts

I can see myself
Spray painting letters on bridges
I can’t be no-one else
Getting myself over blue and back to you

I say the words and street lights explode in a flash
Of light showering sparks on the sidewalk below
Illuminates everything
In our sight

I can see myself
Hand washing fragile emotions
I can’t be no-one else
Getting myself over blue and back to you

Now I guess that we have come to the part
Where our questions and the music depart
From the form that we expected
Take a new direction
Far enough to set us apart

I can see myself
Toasting your good health and sleeping
I can’t be no-one else
Getting myself over blue and back to you

Higher

Written By: The Slides

Wonder light streams in through my door
Friends of mine shower you with more
Sleeping night can only break you down
Still we might fall forever out

And I’m higher than I’ve ever been before
And I’m higher than I’ve ever been before

Traffic light stops you on your feet
Makes you wait corner falls asleep
City light falls from neon gods
We just might fall forever out

And I’m higher than I’ve ever been before
And I’m higher than I’ve ever been before

And I’m higher than I’ve ever been before
And I’m higher than I’ve ever been before
