The Smiling Strangers

The Smiling Strangers

BandPopFolk

The Smiling Strangers are a talented bunch of musicians who are trying to reach `pop` heaven by writing a succession of `catchy` three minute guitar based pop gems.

Biography

The Smiling Strangers were formed in 2004 by songwriter Jeff Reynolds and are based in London and the Midlands area of the UK. Jeff had played in bands and appeared at both the Edinburgh Fringe and the Greenbelt Arts Festival but had a break from music before writing a batch of new songs that were meant to be a solo project but which quickly developed into The Smiling Strangers.

The band features Jeff on bass and guitars, Rue Randall on guitars and vocals, Lucy Winkett on guitar and vocals, Peter Moreton on piano and vocals and Pete Powers on drums.

The band primarily write and perform `catchy and hook filled` three minute pop songs but also include many different styles and types of music in their eclectic live set. All of the band are accomplished musicians and writers in their own right and they bring this mix to both the live and recorded material of the `Strangers`.

The musical influences for the `Strangers` are many and varied and range from pop, rock, jazz, blues and folk music. This makes them a very original group of people and musicians. They constantly change their live sets to include their own songs and the occasional cover version, which could be very well known or totally obscure.

Their live shows are usually sold out and the audience is guaranteed to have a fun and exciting time with the set list varying every time they play.

Their first CD `Dangerous Times` was released in late 2004 to great reviews and their new album, `Spaces Graces and Smiling Faces` is due to be released in March 2006. The aim of the band is to consolidate their fan base throughout 2006 with the new releases and also gigs all over the UK and abroad.

In February 2006, The Smiling Strangers were accepted to be part of the TuneTank SXSW New Generation 2006 CD with their track `Smile On Your Face`. The same track also appeared on the Australian compilation, `Sounds Like Cafe` Vol 11 which was released in May 2006. In December 06, they also appeared on Volume 14 of Sounds Like Cafe and also Apache Rose Publishing (USA) Best New Bands of 2006 CD. So world domination for the `Strangers` is nearing completion!

The Smiling Strangers released their third CD album in November 2007. It is entitled "ALL THE WAY".

The One I Hold Tonight

Written By: Jeff Reynolds

THE ONE I HOLD TONIGHT

I`m missing you like a song in my head
I`m missing you – there`s a space in my bed
I`m missing you like some long lost lover
I`m missing you and there is no other
Oh if you hold me tight
You`ll be going nowhere on this night
Oh if the stars align
They had better say that you`ll be mine

Cos I need you to be my one and only lover
I need you to be my one and only friend
I need you to be the answer to all my prayers this night
I need you to be the one I hold tonight
The one I hold tonight

I want to be your only one
That takes you from the deep dark place
I want to be the final one
The final one in that great embrace
Oh please don`t let me go
The time is right – the pace is slow
Oh if you still don`t see
I want you lying right next to me

Cos I need you to be my one and only lover
I need you to be my one and only friend
I need you to be the answer to all my prayers this night
I need you to be the one I hold tonight
The one I hold tonight

Passionate Angels

Written By: Peter Moreton/Jeff Reynolds

PASSIONATE ANGELS

Move me out of the thunder
Move me out of the rain
Somehow move me to the night time
So I can start the day again
Move me into the garden
Where I can watch some beauty grow
Let me lie there with the angels
Singe my fingers on their halos
Stroke their feathers while they pray
Those prayers that save souls

Move me to the deepest joy
Move me to the hardest tears
If you want to be an angel
All you have to do is move me please

Move me nearer to the river
Move me closer to the grave
Someone move me someplace safer
Where I never have to pray for rain again
Move me into the city
Where aspirations rise so high
Let me fly there with the angels
Scraping sky into their paving stones
Raining cries that try to pray those prayers that save souls

Move me to the deepest joy
Move me to the hardest tears
If you want to be an angel
All you have to do is move me please

Let me wake up with the women
Let our toes disturb the dew
Let me not expect an angel
Let the last thing I`m expecting be you
Move my palms around the city
I hold it gently while I weep
Let me tears be like an angels
Easing fears and calming dangers
I place you safe in side the manger
Save my soul let me sleep

Move me to the deepest joy
Move me to the hardest tears
If you want to be an angel
All you have to do is move me please

Goodbye Grey

Written By: Rue Randall

Suddenly it disappears, I see skies of blue, horizons new
Suddenly it all seems clear, I see colours bright into the night
And I take your hand, take your hand into this new land
Footsteps bold, we’ll walk this new made road

All my life I’ve been waiting for the day
When I can finally say Goodbye Grey
All this time I’ve been waiting for the sign
When I can walk away Goodbye Grey

Every day it looks the same, only clouds of grey like yesterday
Every way I’ve felt the pain, cause this strangled heart is torn apart
And all those times, I was running standing still
When one door shut, the other always closed

All this time I was waiting for a sign
Chocs away I say sail away
In this mad world I could only hope and pray
That one day I could say Goodbye Grey
