The Socialites

Ska music has gotten a bad rap lately. The mid-90’s mainstream explosion of ska (known as third wave) brought into the limelight a rush of horn-driven punk, plaid pants, beer-themed songs and hyperactive teenagers recklessly flailing limbs.

While members of The Socialites can’t deny skanking fully decked out in checkers a decade back, they will point out that they’ve matured since, and so has the sound of ska music.

The Socialites, a Madison-based band, infuse a hefty dose of soul and reggae into their music to create a more sophisticated brand of ska reminiscent to early Jamaican and Jamaican-influenced British styles. A combination of upbeat reggae rhythms, smooth horn harmonies and soulful vocals creates an utterly danceable experience, one to be enjoyed with a few good drinks.

Members of The Socialites have played across the Midwest and toured nationally. Since forming in July 2008, the band has performed every show with the energy and experience of seasoned musicians. Their performances have earned recognition ranging from local press coverage as The Isthmus Daily Pick to national press coverage from The Palestra Music Network.
