"Gemini Seven by The Sonic Emporium"

Based in Japan but global in outlook, the second release on the Blindetonation label is an impressive affair. "What Do You Think You Saw" could be an old progressive house number reimagined by Speedy J, its teased out groove coated in acidic swathes. Meanwhile the title track is a superb, eerie techno groove, reminiscent of early Matrix records. Its only contemporary reference is the shadowy Secret Initiative project. The remixes are also impressive; William Earl turns the title track into a tranced out groove, while Heretic Monotype's take on "What..." is all dramatic synths and pulsating 303s. In this interconnected world, Blindetonation is proof that it's not where you from but where you are at that really counts. - Juno

"Back To Mine with The Sonic Emporium"

The Sonic Emporium - Gemini Seven (Blindetonation Records)
For its second release, Japanese label Blindetonation turns to The Sonic Emporium for a six track pack that features two top originals as well as fascinating remixes by Heretic, William Earl and Alejandro Molinari. Blindetonation is an outlet for all manner of chugging disco sounds as influenced by label boss Kezokichi’s time in London DJing and hosting his own Back To Back events. The man behind the latest release is UK star The Sonic Emporium, who distills a love of all forms of dance music and a decade DJing and producing into his own intoxicating jams. He releases on Join Our Club and Wax: On and plies his wares all over the globe. His first cut here, ‘Gemini Seven’ is a robust composition that has a sticky, stuttering bassline underpinning some ornamental synth patterns, spoken word vocal samples and dark drums. Tough to categorise but sure to do damage on machine music loving dance floors, it’s a fine opener. Remixing is William Earl, a UK talent just starting out but who is already impressing with his earliest forays. This one is a case in point: it’s a cosmic, deep and delicious rework with plunging bass, reverb heavy vocals and plenty of skyward melody.
The Sonic Emporium’s other original is ‘What Do You Think You Saw’ a much less oppressive affair with watery droplets, whining pads and chugging disco drums. It has freewheeling melodies rolling off the groove and is the sort of thing that takes dance floors higher and higher. Heretic turns out two remixes of this one, with the first being a super slow and captivating chugger that traps you in a swampy groove and doesn’t let go. Instead, it treats you to a melodic opening of the clouds above your very head that offers a direct view into a perfectly cosmic sky. The second is a rock infused number with raucous drums that encourage you to get loose and is much more tense and tortured sounding. Italian DJ, composer and producer Alejandro Molinari then steps up for a remix and flips the track into a wonderful, beguiling affair that is both dark and menacing and freewheeling and summery. Colourful chords and quirky percussive patterns wrestle with churning drums and the result is a hugely refreshing, slowly hypnotic track. This is a diverse disco package that takes the genre into titillating and unknown new territory.

The Sonic Emporium - Gemini Seven (Blindetonation Records) Out 17th August 2015. - DMC World

"The Sonic Emporium – Gemini Seven EP"

"Trainspotting with The Sonic Emporium"

Big tunes from the big hitters...

Thomas Schumacher Every Little Piece 'Hot Since 82 Remix' (Electric Ballroom)
Without doubt, the one track I play right now that gets everyone going, setting the pace for the night ahead. Not ashamed to say I'm incredibly envious about just how good a job Hot Since 82 did on this!

George Fitzgerald Every Inch 'Deetron Remix' (Hypercolour)
Think I first heard Deetron on Mary Anne Hobbs' 'Breezeblock' show in the late 90's and have remained a fan since. This is a tremendous Techno re-rub of the also very smashing George Fitzgerald.

Pépé Bradock Life (Atavisme)
Over a decade old now, but never tire of it. 'Deep Burnt' rightly caught people¹s attention on a grand scale, this one though took a very clever sample and fashioned a consummate Deep House beast.

The Sonic Emporium Once Is Over (Pictogramme)
OK, I'm shamelessly blowing my own trumpet here. Due out in the summer, it¹s happily proven to be quite the head turner when I've been playing it out.

Ultraista Gold Dayzz 'Chvrches Remix' (I Am Fortified)
Both Ultraista and Chvrches deliver very different takes on Electronic music, but both knock out spectacular results. This mix is a marriage made in Synthpop heaven.

The Sonic Emporium Ciao! 'Clarke Sawkill Remix' (Join Our Club)
No apologies for another of mine, but this is more for Clarke¹s work on it - a lush, dreamy House cut with a fantastically propulsive build. Quite the game changer on the dance floor when timed right.

Call Super Threshing Floor (Houndstooth)
Dark and off kilter electronics, 'The Staircase EP' got me hooked, this growler takes you off on a right old night drive.

Nightworks Long Forgotten Boy 'Erol Alkan's Extended Rework' (Phantasy)
Erol Alkan is a master. He keeps dance floors packed and his peers on the back foot. This is going to get played all summer long and you'll still keep on requesting it.

Cle The Jam (Local Talk)
Mad Mats and Tooli have distilled all their experience and love of House music to create a label with an unmatched level of quality. This is a timeless and tasty piano House anthem.

Stabber Huh! (Halocyan)
Unnerving synth stabs, rave flourishes and precision breaks this slightly terrifying little number makes you want to pop, shake and poo your pants, all at the same time.

Bio

Following 2014’s breakthrough ‘Moon With A View’ EP, 2015 has seen The Sonic Emporium really start to hit his stride. From the night-drive arps of ‘Atarashii’ (Join Our Club Records), through to the wonky techno of ‘Phantoms’ (Abode) and the face-melting grit of ‘Gemini Seven’/ ‘What Do You Think You Saw’ (Blindetonation Tokyo); each successive release has found favour with critics and DJs alike, including Richie Hawtin, Tiga, Erol Alkan, Ewan Pearson, Slam, Jori Hulkkonen and Daniel Avery.  A remix for Doves new band project, Black Rivers, and a further single ‘Beached’ will set up 2016 perfectly.

On the club and festival front, The Sonic Emporium has become the go-to guy for promoters in the know, in need of a secret weapon.  A Canal Mills (Leeds, UK) and Hideout Festival (Zrce Beach, Croatia) resident, the role has allowed him to play alongside an enviable roll-call of the great and good of electronic music, which in turn has informed his unique and eclectic style - all wrapped around a House and Techno core.

A regular radio fixture now via his own ‘Pictogramme’ show via ‘Meattransmission’, guest sets and appearances abound too - In the U.S.A for Evolution Radio and Rinse FM in the U.K. as well as a global list of runners and riders covering everywhere from Columbia (Radionica FM) to China (Phoenix Radio & FM 101.8) via Mexico (Ibero FM, Indonesia (Trax FM) and many more besides.
