Using community conversations as a point of departure, our mission was to help identify and develop potential projects to address issues in Southside Virginia. Goals of this initiative were to promote the emergence of locally-driven, inclusive coalitions which would emphasize economic and social justice; to increase the participation of historically disenfranchised individuals and communities in non-traditional forums. Also to promote creative dialogue and citizen-led engagement with planning for the future and encourage the emergence of a stronger, healthier civic identity in the region.

As a Solo Musician/Performer:
I have had the opportunity to have been greatly influenced by many mentors. Those who have helped me develop my ability to assess, create, and articulate ideas. But my mentors did more than just aid in an intellectual manner. Each one provided an excellent example to follow by their devotion to their own profession. Specifically, each developed strong career paths with the knowledge to support them, they set high standards for themselves, they respected intellectual diversity and they built trust among their colleagues. In sum, each one led by example. It is their influence that directs my efforts and drives my ambition to pursue and assemble the polarities of the basic creative needs within myself. I believe that the life quality of humanity lies not only in the realm of the material, but also in the realm of intangibility; song.

The Men of Soul:
Founder. Keyboards/Keyboard programming / Sax / Flute / Guitar / Bass / Vocals.
The MEN OF SOUL have been a stimulus since 1990, and we still enjoy working together. The Men of Soul have always been described as “Entertainment with the right attitude”. Their definition of their work is inspired by friend, J Marshall in such that; if the blues had a baby and they called it rock'n'roll, then Soul was the child of gospel and R&B, with more than a touch of country thrown in. It was music that had gone to church, and remembered the lessons it had learned there. It was a deep, truly heartfelt sound. Soul was what you got when Brother Ray Charles changed the lyrics to an old gospel song he'd probably sung growing up in Florida and released it as "I Got A Woman" in 1954. Soul was James Brown and the Famous Flames' "Please Please Please." It grew from the parentage of B. B. King and the Soul Stirrers, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Bobby "Blue" Bland and Hank Williams. It was nurtured on the streets of Memphis TN and Macon, Georgia, in the juke joints or the clubs that made up the chitlin circuit, and grew up to be the sound of the south for a generation. And make no mistake, soul, true soul, was southern. The Men of Soul still practice this descriptive and remain a working entity., ,

Original Member. Sax / Vocals.
My brothers in TRUTH are continually in my mind and soul. With them I spent several years touring the Eastern USA and Canada. The Truth group was composed of seven members, which included a full rhythm section and three horns. The group predominately played up and down the East Coast and opened for acts such as James Brown, Blood Sweat and Tears and Bill Withers. While in upstate New York they were offered a Japanese tour with Brenda Lee circa early 70’s and ended their touring in the late 70’s as Tommy Roe’s backup band.
