"Songwriters touch souls through music and lyrics"

An Orleans resident and her friend live oceans apart, but they have formed a partnership that is fulfilling their dreams and giving back to the community at the same time.

Topics :
Simms Publishing and Soul Touchers Music Group , CHEO Foundation , South Wales , Wales

Terri (T.J.) Way met Erin Simms, who lives in South Wales, online two year ago through a website for indie songwriters. The pair have been best friends ever since and formed a joint partnership that provides services to unsigned songwriters called T.J. Way & Simms Publishing and Soul Touchers Music Group. “We want to touch hearts with our music and make a difference in the lives of people,” says Way.

One way they’re making this dream come true is through their recently released four-song album, which is dedicated to the CHEO Foundation. Simms says she knew helping children with cancer was something they needed to do after Way suggested the idea. “I loved it and wanted to be part of it without question,” says Simms in an e-mail from her home in Wales. “To know that songs we wrote could put a smile on a child’s face, who has suffered greatly, is without a doubt the best feeling in the world. Music is a great healer. Although it doesn’t ‘cure’, it can uplift spirits for a while.”

For Way, this initiative has more personal meaning after the tragic deaths of her two children, a loss she doesn't like to discuss. “CHEO has done a lot for me (during) the times that I lost my children,” she explains, adding she’s still dealing with the painful memories and reaching out to others in need has helped her cope. “Kids are the future. For me, I want to do everything to help – we all know what leukemia does. I cannot stand here and do nothing. When I used to go to the hospital, I used to see some of those kids and it always stayed with me.”

The 40-year-old says she hopes their album helps express a message of hope and lets people know how valuable the children’s hospital is to the community.

The CD is entitled “Angels All Around Us” and features four upbeat pop songs with vocals by Simms. “We are the Soul Touchers – Erin and I,” says Way. “I have a lot of faith in what I do and my faith is strong.” For more information about the Soul Touchers “Angels All Around Us” CD, go to , , or It is also available for sale at the CHEO gift shop. -- Antonia McGuire

"Shelly Rann’s “Hell On Heels” Goes Head-to-Head with Miranda Lambert"

Shelly Rann’s “Hell On Heels” Goes Head-to-Head with Miranda Lambert

The recent release of “Hell On Heels” from Miranda Lambert’s new group Pistol Annies came as quite a surprise to Nashville singer/songwriter Shelly Rann. Rann released her first single, also titled “Hell On Heels” to Country Radio in April and was seeing promising results with her debut at # 76 on the Mediabase Country Building Chart in early May.

The recent release of a single of the same name “Hell On Heels” from Lambert’s Pistol Annies left Rann with little choice but to release a second single from her debut album “Afterwords”. Based on very positive reviews from radio program directors and overall reviews of her CD, the natural choice and clear winner became “I’m All Over That”.

Rann co-wrote her version of “Hell On Heels” with Larry Bastian, best known for writing the Garth Brooks hits “Unanswered Prayers” and “Rodeo” and Rann also co-wrote, “I’m All Over That”, with Henry Paul and Dave Robbins of the multi-platinum country group BlackHawk. Henry Paul co-produced the debut album titled “Afterwords” which was released on the Nashville label, Mirror Lake Records.

The latest single from Rann will be released to country radio in late July in conjunction with a new music video, shot on the amazingly impressive brand new digital cinema camera from RED called the “Epic”. The “Epic” is the highly acclaimed camera being used to shoot the major motion pictures and visual masterpiece films “The Hobbit” and “Avatar 2”.

Look for the music video to be released to CMT and GAC in late July, however, fans in Baltimore, MD will have an opportunity to catch a sneak peek of the video which is set to air at Camden Yards on the Orioles’ HD Jumbotron on Sunday July 17th when Shelly Rann stops by to sing the National Anthem for the Orioles vs. Indians at 1:35pm EST. Fans at the game will be able to meet and greet for autographs and photos with Shelly and also take home a download card with 3 Free Songs including “Hell On Heels”, “I’m All Over That”, and “Unloved” courtesy of Shelly Rann and The Baltimore Orioles.

Shelly Rann’s debut CD “Afterwords” is available at and her first single titled “Hell On Heels” as well as the brand new single titled “I’m All Over That” are available for download at and on iTunes

About Country Artist-Erin Gannon Simms

When an artist emerges, the world celebrates an overnight success. Seldom is that truly the case.

As coal is refined into a diamond, what appears to come out of nowhere is often the result of a drive that fuels years of hard work and dedication.

UK born singer-songwriter Erin Gannon Simms’ road of determination has yielded a successful recording career that has seen a host of publishing deals, scores of radio play on stations across the world, co-writes with well-known hit writers. Her songs cracked the Top 10 on web radio UK Broadjam on three occasions and Simms was recently honored as ‘Songwriter of the Month’ by Indie Isles Magazine.

Born in Newport, South Wales, UK, Erin cites her Belfast-born father, who once played bass in a band alongside Van Morrison, as having a profound influence on her foray into music. As well, Erin's mother has always been her biggest fan.

The burgeoning sensation started writing at age 11. While most girls her age were playing with dolls, the ambitious Erin was singing songs she’d written into a tape recorder. She joined her first band at age 14 and spent the next 10 years playing in and around South Wales. Her favorite band was one she formed with her sister, Cathy. They named themselves "Novena".

Early into her career, at age 17, her dedication to the craft was validated. Erin received a phone call from an A&R executive at Sony Records London who was working with a then unknown Celine Dion, who took the time to tell her he enjoyed her voice.

Her husband, Paul, is a source of inspiration and a pillar of support. While helping to raise their young family of three children, Erin took a break from live performances. Her dedication to the craft, however, was unfailing as she continued writing and recording, making use of a keyboard and recording equipment given to her by her brother, Tony.

While the ebullient Erin is known for her wacky, engaging sense of humor (which she thanks her Irish blood for), she is a sincere and responsible artist with a passion for helping others. An email friendship formed with Ottawa, Canada -based songwriter and manager T.J. Way through a mutual respect of one another’s music. The internet encounter provided the opportunity to showcase Erin’s socially-conscious mindset. The pair collaborated, writing and co-producing the heart-felt EP, “Angels All Around Us”. A portion of the proceeds for the four-song album are donated to support children’s battle with leukemia.

Her style is as varied as the music she covers at her shows, offering her take on notable artists such as Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Pink, 60’s music and Whitney Houston to name a few. Such admiration is reflected in her writing as she lends her distinctive personal touch to tracks that run the gamut of genre, including Pop, Country, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Christian Contemporary, and Gospel. Her own "personal" style for her forthcoming album, will be a mix of country rock and pop.

Currently residing in Canada to coincide with the release of Erin’s debut album, the future looks bright for another ‘overnight success’ in the making.

Erin truly has adopted the world as her own; it’s just a matter of time before it in turn embraces this rising starlet.
