"The Spookfish"

The Spookfish, photographed above, is Dan Goldberg, and as such he is a member of the only vertebrate species to have evolved the use of mirrors instead of lenses in its eyes. Dan makes hallucinatory poptronica (I’m discarding “electro-pop” in favor of the preceding) with complex dramatic structures, balancing noises and effects to create an internal dialogue. It engages you in an uncommon way that makes each listen surprisingly fulfilling. Find out for yourself: Dan has made his EP ONLINE available for free and I think we can all agree that this name is entirely descriptive of where the EP now is.

The Spookfish – Strawberry Feelings

Blessed with a varied network of arts associates, it also bears pointing out that Dan has turned Spookfish into an audio/visual collaboration. To accompany a large selection of his songs he commissioned a set of videos, each as quirky and beautiful as the songs that inspired them. This isn’t to say that there’s anything “precious” about the project and I think the selection of videos I’ve put together below should make that clear. The video for “My Stomach” was apparently used in a PETA ad – and shit rarely gets more serious than that – and “Remembering” portrays a touching underwater transcendental interaction of some kind. - Royal Rhino Flying

"Up And Down"

Dan Goldberg, aka The Spookfish, makes glitchy dream-pop that is sure to please your ears. Though his songs usually are instrumental, his incredibly cool and amusing videos to accompany songs often convey the emotion necessary. Dan's friend Kyra Lamariana has helped him on several tracks and was just recently added as a permanent member. At the moment he is in South Korea teaching English and playing several shows, but he'll be returning to the US in March. Below is his ONLINE EP that he was kind enough to send over. - Get Off The Coast (Contributor to Pitchfork's Altered Zones)

Berlinbaserade The Spookfish skickade precis över låten A million elephants, från Royal Rhino Flying Records nya kompilation The Queen's jew, och som den sucker för skitbra lo-fi-electronica man är kan man inte göra annat än att gladeligen sprida vidare

Bio

Dan Goldberg has been making music under the moniker of "The Spookfish" for three years now and performing it, often with video, accompanied by Kyra Lamariana on keyboards. He has received very positive responses(including 50,000+ youtube hits) from both his online music videos and from his performances. His music, although rarely containing lyrics, is unmistakably personal, usually consisting of simple, repetitive drumbeats, droning, wobbling walls of organs and other synthesizers, and delicate, though occasionally jarring melodies. Overwhelming and overflowing with feeling, it is hard to predict where the music will go next, and the songs often end abruptly once the feeling is communicated. Perhaps frustrating at first for some, the music will quickly and deeply sink its teeth in.

Originally based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, he spent the last year Busan, South Korea, where he was teaching English, performing occasionally, and hiking. He is currently based in Berlin Germany and focusing solely on music.
