"...Patti Smith, PJ Harvey, Aimee Mann..."

[translated from Dutch] The voice of a female singer matches beautiful rocking music very often. Patti Smith, PJ Harvey, Liz Phair, Aimee Mann, Cat Power, Paula Kelley, all of them are women who have found their place in pop and rock music. Not only as singers but also as songwriters. Sarah Pinsker is also such a rock woman who makes excellent music...The folk rock of The Stalking Horses is described as a mix between Lucinda Williams and Afghan Whigs. Maybe this looks as a strange combination but you can hear how it really sounds by listening to the title song of the new record. - Heet Stof/Hot Stof

"...powerful rhythms..."

This tune begins with a drum introducing my feet to a shufflin’ blues flavor. I’m ready to meet myself on the floor face to face, and am fully satisfied by the time the four minutes are over. “I love my evil twin. As the years go by we’re looking more alike. I know things won’t always be this black and white. But until then at least I think I know what’s right.” Feet move in three directions while shoulders move in four. It’s easier than it sounds with the powerful rhythms flowing throughout. Very cool guitar work near the end – comes very close to the edge of being rude, but manages to salvage it’s twinness beautifully. Shoutout to Everything Bounces (“I am not bound by your rules!”) -Eartaste, March 20, 2007 - Eartaste

"...the strength of the songs..."

I'm absolutely in awe over the songwriting and the strength of the songs. I can't even pick a favorite.
--Dan Herman, Radio Crystal Blue 3/28/07 - Crystal Blue Radio

""One disc you have to hear.""

"The Stalking Horses will celebrate the release of "this is your signal" this month. The cover art is incredible, and the cool thing is that the music is just as great as the cover art. Impeccably produced and mastered - this is one disc you have to hear." - Susie Mudd, publisher of Music Monthly. March '07 edition. - Music Monthly

""Break the bridle and run wild...""

Stalking Horses bandleader Sarah Pinsker is a seasoned veteran of the
local songwriter scene, and her band keeps threatening to break the bridle and run wild any old day
now. Until then we have their EP to put in our feedbags and chew on.
Pinsker is heir to the vocal throne of Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano, and that's clear
even before you get to their strong cover of Napolitano's song "Probably Will." With its driving beat and hooky guitar, "Everything Bounces" is one of the more easily memorable local rock songs you're likely to find, and
alone is well worth the price of the CD. - Citizen Rahne Alexander / Baltimore Gay Life

""Crisp and captivating""

Sarah is a true storyteller. Her lyrics are filled with visual images and unique somewhat strange characters...Sarah's compositions are well produced and enchanting. Her vocals are crisp and captivating. The cover photo of a child playing plane on the beach captures the spirit of flight and potential that this five track collection holds. Every song is a winner on this EP but of particular note are the first two catchy songs. Sarah Pinsker soars on Wingspan! - Kweevak.com

""riotous attitude...brazen delivery""

Melodic rock-n-roll that dares to travel a little further down left field than most would. The Stalking Horses is a Baltimore area band that features singer/guitarist Sarah Pinsker front and center. Her riotous attitude comes across with brazen delivery and stern lyrics. You’re invited inside her pain and welcome to stomp around a bit but look out for her left uppercut; she’s known to drop thirty men with a glare. But despite this hardened exterior, this is a lady through and through, one with more class than the local university. - Smother.Net

""A female Tom Waits""

"I'm listening to a singer from Baltimore who I think should be a big star, Sarah Pinsker. She writes some of the best songs I've heard in a long time. She's like a female Tom Waits of the pop world." - Lisa Sanders - Siren Song

""The same magic as the early works of Suzanne Vega""

If it's really good folk-pop songs you love then Charmed (coincidentally the name of Pinsker's debut CD) you will be. Not only will this Baltimore-based artist convince you that "life is sweet and strange", she will also have you singing it too. Her songs have the same magic as the early works of Suzanne Vega and the Indigo Girls. - Rockrgrl Magazine

""Awe-inspiring""

Part Catie Curtis (read East Coast queer folkie), part Sarah Dougher (read Pacific Northwest queer riot grrl).... Like Ani DiFranco, Pinsker also covers Phil Ochs. Her version of Ochs's 'Cross My Heart' is awe-inspiring." - Gregg Shapiro / WIndy City Times - Windy City Times

Bio

The Stalking Horses were born all because former Disappear Records recording artist Sarah Pinsker got tired of playing solo. She plugged her acoustic guitar into a DOD stompbox and recruited a band from the DC post-punk scene and the Baltimore rock clubs, combining intelligent songcraft, “blissfully ragged melodicism” (Baltmore Magazine) and straight-forward rock & roll.

The current lineup has been playing clubs and festivals for almost two years now, with highlights including Baltimore’s massive Artscape festival, Houston Pride, and Seattle’s Rockrgrl Conference. The Stalking Horses have gained a reputation for their energetic live show, playing bills across the country with Antigone Rising, Michelle Malone and more.

The Stalking Horses have just released their first full-length recording on The Beechfields Record Label, home to other indie up-and-comers such as Private Eleanor, the Red Vines and the Seldon Plan. The band’s live energy is transformed into a massive wall of studio sound that propels singer Sarah Pinsker’s road-worn tales of fragile and enchanted characters enacting a dream rehearsal of your life.

The new record is for fans of The Afghan Whigs, Lucinda Williams, Neil Gaiman, and Regina Spektor - full of heartbreaking melody and joyful noise. We suggest you buy bigger speakers - you’ll want to play it loud.

"This Is Your Signal" was released March 13, 2007.
