The State, The Market & The DJ

THE STATE, THE MARKET & THE DJ, based in Copenhagen, have since 2008 been making a name for themselves on the Danish music scene – and with tremendous success. Critics and audiences alike have shown an immense enthusiasm for the band’s music and live-performances, through positively written reviews and big turn-ups to the shows. Furthermore, after releasing their debut-album in October 2008 – which is considered by many to be an outstanding album – the band played festivals such as Roskilde Festival (Denmark, 2008), SPOT Festival (Denmark, 2009) and Rettir Round-Up (Iceland, 2009). SMDJ recently started working on their second album, which will be released in the latter part of 2013. The new material will be presented via live performances in Denmark and abroad from February 2013.

THE STATE, THE MARKET & THE DJ’s sound has been described as both minimalistic, angelic and fragile but also very elaborate and intense. As a live-act the band has become quite acclaimed as significant. The carefully arranged and aesthetic dark songs are intensely played, enfolded by complex vocal arrangements and cliffhanging cacophonous noisy improvisations. SMDJ consists of Erwin Thomas, Eske Nørrelykke, Dan Hvidtfeldt Larsen and Anders Holst, who all are great contributors to the Danish music scene.
