THE STEADY REBELS RELEASE NEW SINGLE GRAVITY WITH OFFICIAL VIDEO www.thesteadyrebelsofficial.com | www.youtube.com/TheSteadyRebels

On the wake of their debut EP Motion, The Steady Rebels have just released their new single Gravity, with an official video. Directed by Philip Harris Designs, the video takes the viewer from dirt roads to a house concert, as it follows the group on their journey to the show.
Watch the official video for Gravity, HERE.

Both the single and EP are now available for download on iTunes. "MOTION” shouts their mission statement outright. An inclination to keep people moving onward, whether it be through positive action, increasing awareness, or even dance.

2014 has shaped up to be a very positive year for the group, which began with the Humber College Battle of the Bands on February 28th, where they took home first place. Then they released their EP in May, which propelled them to perform across southern Ontario at the Irie Music Festival Mississauga, Sheridan College Residence Night at The Marquee, The Cameron House in Toronto with local band Fun Fact, Burlington~Rib fest – Merriam Music Jamfest, and the Rad Brothers in Milton, ON.
The Steady Rebels will be taking their reggae sound to the KOI Music Festival in Kitchener on September 20th at Bobby O’Brien’s and will hit the stage at 8PM for a 30 minute set. Following the festival performance, fans can see them at Failte Irish Pub in Mississauga on September 26th and during Indie Week in October in Toronto (details to be announced).

The 7-piece alternative reggae group formed in Mississauga, Ontario - with a blend of sax, keys, drums, percussion, guitar, bass, and vocals. Built around a core of friends with history, they are quickly becoming recognized for their musically explosive and articulate anthems. The Steady Rebels use their unique instrumentation to experiment and incorporate other genres like Jazz, Blues, and Funk into their distinct sound.

The Steady Rebels were formed after lead singer Sean Feltoe was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and was hospitalized in Cincinnati for 7 months. Music was a driving factor in the recovery and mental well being of Sean throughout this traumatic time and when he returned to Mississauga feeling much better and with his new found love of reggae music, Sean contacted high school friend Damian Hercules (drums) and decided to form The Steady Rebels. Other members in the group include Brec Hanson (guitar), Mike Crupi (bass), Mike Glendon (sax), Ryan Luke (percussion) and Darryl Joseph-Dennie (keys).
“Music is about discovery, who knows where the Rebels talent will take us”. – Sean Feltoe

"Steady Rebels win Battle of Bands"

Adam Stroud
A&E Reporter

Reggae band The Steady Rebels triumphantly took the stage after winning the top prize at Humber College’s annual Battle of the Bands on Feb. 28.

Ryan Luke, 23, a television writing and producing student and percussionist for The Steady Rebels, said the band was unsure of what to do with the prize money.

“We might buy some new gear,” he said.

The five bands duked it out from around 7:30 p.m. until about 10:30 p.m., with each band playing a short set in hopes of winning the top prize of a $1,000 gift card from Long & McQuade. The second and third place prizes were $500 and $100 from the music instrument retailer respectively.

The five bands who performed in order were: The Plugs, The Steady Rebels, Ginger Ale and the Monowhales, Dead Penny Trio, and Triumph Over Adversity.

The band Ginger Ale and the Monowhales, who describe their sound as “happy with screaming,” came in third place. Guitarist Zach Zanardo, 23, a music student had a more creative use for the prize money.

“We’ll try to take over the world,” he said.

“That, and a PA system,” said Sally Shaar, 22, music student at Humber College and vocalist for Ginger Ale and the Monowhales.

Colin Edwards-Crewe, known as ColinResponse, VP Student Life of Lakeshore campus, organized the event. This was the second year the event was organized by ColinResponse and he said the quality of the bands performing was very high.

“I think they’re all great. There was 30 applicants, five of the best ones were chosen, so everybody who’s coming should be in for a really good show,” he said.

ColinResponse said that events such as the Battle of the Bands offer a great setting to show off the quality of talent at Humber.

“Students will come out and students love to get entertained. And it’s great to use students to entertain students. And it’s great to have students to support students who are pursuing careers or their passion in an artistic setting,” he said.

Tim Brilhante, 29, incumbent Humber Students’ Federation president was in attendance. He echoed ColinResponse’s sentiment about the importance of events like this one for building student morale.

“It brings the student community together, and I think music and Battle of the Bands is something everyone can unite around,” he said.

Bio

Recently FACTOR funded, The Steady Rebels are a 9-piece alternative reggae group formed in Mississauga, Ontario. Built around a core group of friends with a history, they are quickly becoming recognized for their explosive and articulate anthems. You could expect such a distinct band to be conspicuous today’s day and age, where indie-rock and pop artists dominate the music scene.

Their EP "MOTION" released in May 2014, shouts their mission statement outright: an inclination to keep people motivated by moving onward through positive action, thinking of the future, increased awareness, and dance. Propelled by this common goal and a drive to improve as musicians, these up and comers continue to thrive and build upon the amazing feedback they have received in the past two years. Largely influenced by bands such as Passafire, John Browns Body, and Groundation, they fuse a vigorous sound to a positive message stuffed with funky horn lines, in the pocket grooves, screaming organs, and soulful vocals.

The band was formed after front-man Sean Feltoe became seriously ill. Diagnosed with the blood disorder Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, he was hospitalized in Cincinnati, Ohio for 7 months. Music was a driving factor in the recovery and mental well-being of Sean throughout this traumatic time. Back in Mississauga and feeling much better with his newfound love for reggae music, he contacted a high school friend and formed the first incarnation of The Steady Rebels. The next year showcased several versions of the band, including genre experimentation and member turnovers.

As of 2016, a true ensemble of the band includes: Sean Feltoe (Vocals,) Mike Crupi (Bass/Vocals,) Brec Hanson (Guitar,) Darryl Joseph-Dennie (Keys,) Ryan Luke (Percussion,) Josh Bird (Trombone,) and Julian Brindley (Trumpet,) with session musicians Treyvon Taylor (Drums,) and Mike Glendon (Saxophone.) Today, the band continues to expand their loyal following with memorable riffs and lyrics that encompass principal themes. The Steady Rebels have played shows all over Southern Ontario and are consistently exercising their songwriting abilities in and out of the studio. In the future you can expect much more from this 8-piece reggae wrecking ball!
