Bio

The Steed formed in 2006 when longtime friends and band mates Brandon Turner and Joshua Wallis (both of The Rubber Nuns [Houston] and Purchase New York [Austin]) found Chad Davis and bassist Kody Smith, mainly to jam with as a side project. As the weeks passed, it became clear that their very different styles (an Slash-style rock guitarist, a classic rock buff, a classically trained bassist, and a drummer with a penchant for playing 5 and 7) melded into something that had to be seriously explored. Challenging each other sometimes to release their notions of "how a song should be written" and sometimes to slow down their hands kept everyone interested. A year and many shows later, Kody parted ways and the bassist role was taken up by Nate Vanderford, who had previously concentrated on guitar. Nate, having a pickless playing stlye similar to Mark Knopfler, made the transition naturally.

With their lineup complete, they practiced, refined the songs, and played dozens of shows in Texas in anticipation of the studio. They recorded and released the EP "So It Goes..." in mid 2007 followed by a two week tour of the midwest US. 2008 started with remixing and mastering tracks recorded in the original sessions that had never been released, then having them pressed on a 3 song demo released for Austin's South By Southwest festival.

Current plans include release of another EP, putting together an Austin-based compilation promo cd with like-minded bands, and month-long tour of the South and East US in August 2008.
