"The Still City"

"[On Light and the Machines ] The Still City's emo-inflected rock has taken a giant leap forward...Ryan Murphy's synth lines are front and center next to Brendan Gann's percussive bass lines...Brandon Roth's supernaturally kinetic drumming roughens the edges and keeps the songs hurtling forward....Brian Knab's vocals seem stronger, more emotive and confident than before, giving tracks like "Sleepwalkers for Life" and the Cure-like "A Bedroom and a Parking Spot" a raw sincerity and power." - The Westword

"The Still City"

"...singer/guitarist, Brian Knab, has a true gift for turning a phrase until it corkscrews your heart..." - Onion

"The Still City"

"...There’s never been a better time to get into local music, and The Still City is definitely running with the cream of the crop. - kaffeinebuzz

Bio

Since it’s onset in mid 2006, The Still City has been pulling on heartstrings and tugging the emotions of listeners and audiences around Colorado’s front range with their dynamic song writing, thoughtful lyrics and intense live performances. While only together for a few years now, the founding members – Brian Knab (guitar/Vocals), Ryan Murphy (guitar) and Brandon Roth (drums) all grew up together in the tiny Colorado Springs suburb of Monument, CO and have been playing music together since their high school days. While originally pulling from influences like Denver’s own dance-punk band, The Photo Atlas, Bright Eyes, Spoon and some of the edgier 90s grunge The Still City has matured with their own sound of scattered melodies mixed with driving rhythms and ethereal keyboards. Singer Brian Knab, who has been studying philosophy for years, pours out his heart with melodies and lyrics that are so detailed you immediately feel that you are a part of the story being told.

With the addition of Jeff Wiencrot on bass and backing vocals the band spent 6 months recording their first full length album "We Will Explain Everything" at the end of 2009. With the outstanding local acclaim on the album The Still City recently won the award for Denver’s Best Indie-Rock Band 2010 by Westword (Village Voice) and performed at the Mile Hi-Fidelity showcase at SXSW. In June of 2010 Tinderbox Music jumped on board with the band to push the album to college radio and some licensing.
