The Stone Rocket

BandRockAlternative

They come from the future - and from the past. They meet at The Stone Rocket. Will it rise? Will they come? It runs on faith alone. A blend of driving rock, synth soundscapes and massive percussive layers over which specific imagery is shaped and sung as simple melodies that will excite you.

Biography

Ottawa native Kirk Stanton, formerly of local seminal rock band Paranoid Delusions, and present-day electro-gurus lovenbodyparts, came to Montreal in 2001 seeking high-adventure. He finally found it this year when he was introduced to drummer Michael Rien through his friends in Montreals foremost icono-pump math-rock group All Kinds, whom Michael continues to work with.

Michael, after having taken his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music at Concordia University, immersed himself in music entirely. Working with the likes of Jeff Nystrom (Producer: April Wine), reggae-soul diva Tamashi, and Orthodox Jewish Elvis Tributist Schmelvis, he finely tuned his skills from as many angles as possible in preparation for this monumental meeting.

And yet, Kirk and Michaels first session together taught them that, though they had it when it came to talent, creativity, the look and such, they really had no idea whatsoever when it came to handling high technology. Enter Raff...

He may be most visible as the Tony Ezzy guitar ninja, but Raphael Rosenwald is accustomed to wearing many hats around town. In the mid-1990s, he ran the recording studio of the legendary CRSG radio station, alongside Jennifer Hollet of MuchMusic fame. Notable clients included Arcade Fire star Regine Chassagne and The Dears, who released some of these sessions on Nor The Dahlias.

Having completed a university education in music, Raphael has played guitar, bass, drums and keyboards as well as designing visuals and directing videos for many bands and projects over the years. He composed the elaborate score for Heather Cameron's performance of Boney Bones at the National Theatre School of Canada.

The three began experimenting and tracking sessions for what would become The Stone Rockets October 2006 release the Launch EP, featuring the intense, original progressed rock tracks So Far and The Way Back Home. These two tracks are the pre-production demos for the upcoming full-length release The Stone Rocket: Faster Than the Speed of Shadows. Kirk, Michael and Raphael are presently booked into The Furnace Studios in downtown Montreal, hard at work on the upcoming release.

With the formation of Vortex Intercosmic Records, as well as an as-yet-unnamed Publishing and Merchandizing company, in the Autumn of 2006, The Stone Rocket are busy preparing for a Canada-wide release of Faster Than the Speed of Shadows for the Spring of 2007. Elaborate tour and promotional plans are also in the works. Watch Out!

Lyrics

So Far

Written By: Kirk Stanton - The Stone Rocket

As I dial through the waves
I will the radio to play
A song that calls your name
That sings the words I tried to say
That you can hear a thousand miles away

So I send this out to you
And this goes for all I do
Yet if you weren't so far
I doubt you'd be a star to me

And as the world spins away
Underneath the aeroplane
Well, nothing seems to change
As we go screaming through the rain
That you can hear a thousand miles away

So I send this out to you
And this goes for all I do
Yet if you weren't so far
I doubt you'd be a star to me

Sleepy on the way
To that little bay
With an ocean view
Trippin' on the waves
And if it weren't for you
I would still behave
With no songs left to play
And no words left to prove

So that when the night is falling in
Faster than it's ever been
And while all the stars awaken
From the silence that we break
That you can hear a thousand miles away

Then I send this out to you
And this goes for all I do
Yet if you weren't so far
I doubt you'd be a star to me

The Way Back Home

Written By: Kirk Stanton - The Stone Rocket

As sun sets on a city
Screaming for illumination
Somewhere somebody
Is screaming for illumination
Of the body and the soul
The heart the head
A touch of gold
And all those fairy tales
That told them where to go

Yeah, you know:

You get off, go on
Until you've gone
Far beyond
The world you've known
When all you want
Is waiting
On the way back home

You act like you'd never
Heard it said
That what you want
You might just get, yet
And someone out there
Is waiting yet for you
To let them through
Into your body
And your soul
Your heart and your head
Because it's what you know
And there's a way
Unto a place
Where you will
Never grow old

So get off, go on
Until you've gone
Far beyond
The world you've known
For all you want
Is waiting
On the way back home

And it's hard now to resist this
When the world keeps spinning on
And it won't stop for an instant
For a moment that is gone
And it's hard now to remember
How it was we got along
Without all of the forgiveness we missed
That just didn't get around

So get off, go on
Until you're gone
For far beyond
The world you've known
Is all you want
It's waiting
On the way back home
