The Straingers

 Kansas City, Missouri, USA
BandRockBlues

In June of 2010 lead vocalist and rhythm guitar player John Powell joined with accomplished lead guitarist Colby Kilgore to combine their contrasting styles to create a sound that is rooted in blues and rock n' roll but also is influenced by genres from folk to psycedelic with emphasis on poetic lyrics that are meaningful to their audience.

Biography

When The Straingers came together their mission was to collaborate thier different styles and influences in order to create a sound that is unique to themselves. Although they all could agree that their favorite sounds were rooted in blues they were all drawn to song writing by different artists. Hendrix, Zepplin, The Doors, Pink Floyd and Bob Marley coaxed lead guitarist Colby Kilgore while lead vocalist John Powell was persuaded by the likes of James Taylor, Marvin Gaye, and The Beatles just to name a few. Their song writing styles are very different but they did not allow themselve to be restricted by fitting into any particular genre.

Lyrics

Tribute to G. Clark

Written By: John Powell

I washed away my senses
and I can't find the sky
I speak but I don't listen
and my mouth's dry
I used up all my wishes
in such a short time
scared that i would miss it
but I've been blind

This bottle's just to pass the time
the grass is greener on the other side
I'll move ahead and I'll look behind
the day will break and so will I
I don't need no one to save me
all I need is just a little time
the past is gonna chase me
and I'll walk another million miles

The Girl

Written By: John Powell

There was no pain to pray for endless sleep
her mind would whisper, I just can't fight it anymore
A heavy soul and a heart without a dream
the heaviest dose couldn't change the world that she sees

Doctor help me I can all but lay me down
maybe a home will find me the next time around
these hands can't summon the reaper this much I know
forgive this burden I've come as far as I'll go

He said no honey, no honey
I struggle to give it and surely can't take it away
life can be so much better I have just the thing
take this one tablet but take it three times a day

Doctor help me I can all but lay me down
maybe a home will find me the next time around
these hands can't summon the reaper this much I know
forgive this burden I've come as far as I'll go

Man of War

Written By: Colby Kilgore

I lift these burning hands to you
you can only turn to say
this candle it is burning low
let the alter light your way
layered i'm at loss for games
and i'm afraid to cheat
dying in the light of day i'm living in a dream
i'm gonna sing about it
na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na

slipping through i'll hold my ground
won't let go of what I've found

from this flask I sip alone
because it seems to feed me
against the roots and with my soul
it opens and recieves me
this feast has left me empty
it's left me all but sane
this place I rest my broken thoughts
that comes and goes with pain
I'm gonna sing about it
na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na

slipping through i'll hold my ground
won't let go of what I've found

In this place that time can't touch
this place where vines can't grow
this palce that has to change it's name
leaves a reckoning in Bardo

slipping through I'll hold my ground
won't let go of what I've found
