Biography

With no label support and over 70,000 paid downloads under their belt, THE STRANGE FAMILIAR lift their resonant pop rock to new heights on their debut full length album THIS IS GRAVITY. A powerful sound defined by the pairing of singer/songwriter/keyboardist Kira Leyden’s soaring vocals and elegant piano with guitarist/songwriter Jeff Andrea’s intricate guitar work. Kira & Jeff have been performing and writing together since they were in elementary school, playing hundreds of shows together in various bands, opening for Maroon 5, Bon Jovi and Sugar Ray. Their first charting song was not performed by them, however Ashlee Simpson recorded their song "Invisible" and released it in 2006. The song reached #19 on Billboard & #1 on iTunes.

TSF's new album features 12 tracks including the undeniably catchy “I Just Want To Love You” and the uplifting rock-ballad “Courage Is…”. The album from the Los Angeles-based, Akron, OH-bred band—rounded out by bassist Frank Freeman and newest member, Nicholas Sainato on drums. All four members are originally from small towns in Ohio. THIS IS GRAVITY was digitally released independently over the summer of 2009.

Three TSF songs have been featured in promos for ABC Family's series The Secret Life of the American Teenager--a 2008 Teen Choice Award-winning series. "I Just Want to Love You" and "Courage Is..." were featured in promos for the third season. "Secret Life (You and Me)" is also included as a special feature on the Season 2 DVD.

Lyrics

Courage Is...

Written By: Kira Leyden

Take all my viscous words
And turn them into something good.
Take all my preconceptions
And let the truth be understood.
Take all my prized possessions
Leave only what I need.
Take all my pieces of doubt
And let me be what's underneath.

Courage is when you're afraid,
but you keep on moving anyway.
Courage is when you're in pain,
but you keep on living anyway.

We all have excuses why
Living in fear something in us dies.
Like a bird with broken wings
It's not how high he flies,
But the song he sings.

Courage is when you're afraid, but you keep on moving anyway.
Courage is when you're in pain, but you keep on living anyway.

It's not how many times you've been knocked down.
It's how many times you get back up.

Courage is when you've lost your way, but you find your strength anyway.
Courage is when you're afraid.
Courage is when it all seems grey.
Courage is when you make a change, And you keep on living anyway.

You keep on moving anyway.
You keep on giving anyway.
You keep on loving anyway.

Still Have Time

Written By: K. Leyden, J. Andrea

Songs and letters
Words are fetters
Wrapped around my wrists
Years and ages
Books and pages
All the things I loved are faded
I am afraid I’ll never get the chance
To change my world and face the things I can’t

Break the ice around your heart
Don’t ever be afraid
You know it’s not too late for you to
Take another chance on life
Go on and roll the dice
And start over
You still have time

Votes and voices
Lives are choices
Everybody makes mistakes
Heroes, shepherds, beggars, lepers
We’ve all committed our crimes
We’re so afraid we’ll end up wearing scars
Don’t be afraid
Be true to who you are

Break the ice around your heart
Don’t ever be afraid
You know it’s not too late for you to
Take another chance on life
Go on and roll the dice
And start over

You’re on the edge
Waiting to jump off
Dive into the unknown
Unbeliever, it’s ok
You still have time

Break the ice around your heart
Don’t ever be afraid
You know it’s not too late for you to
Take another chance on life
Go on and roll the dice
And start over
You still have time

I Just Want to Love You

Written By: K. Leyden, J. Andrea

Take the blame off your back
It’s a burden you don’t own
Lay your head in my arms
And I will be your home
You can’t carry this alone

I just want to love you
I don’t want to change you or judge you
I just want to love you
But darling you have to learn to love you too

I won’t count every line
This life has carved in you
Your beauty lies in these eyes
Cause I can see the truth
I see the strength in you

I just want to love you
I don’t want to change you or judge you
I just want to love you
But darling you have to learn to love you too
I just want to love

You hide behind your mask of stone
But you don’t have to be alone
A thousand lives you could have lived
You’re the only one you still need to forgive

I just want to love you
I don’t want to change you or judge you
I just want to love you
I just want to love you

This Is Gravity

Written By: K. Leyden, J. Andrea

Please don't go
Don't go away
Cause you and I were meant to be
It's more than love to me
This is gravity

Don't deny what's in your soul
When you left, you left a hole in my heart
There's no other choice I’d make
You're a risk I have to take
My mind's made up

Please don't go
Don't go and change
Don't ever change a thing for me
Please don't go
Don't go away
Cause you and I were meant to be
It’s more than love to me
This is gravity

I can't fight the way I feel
Surrendering, let fate take the wheel
Can't you see I'm not afraid?
Cause I know what it cost to have already lost you
It's more than love to me
A wave upon the sea
This is gravity

Please don't go
Cause you and I were meant to be
Please don't go
Cause you and I were meant to be
It's more than love to me
This is gravity

Secret Life (You and Me)

Written By: K. Leyden, J. Andrea

I remember when you walked into my secret life
I remember holding hands for the very first time
I remember when you kissed me and I was so scared
But some how I knew that you would always be there
And I remember everything

I don't know what life will bring tomorrow
But I want you there next to me
I don't know where I'll be tomorrow
But I'll remember you and me
You and me

I remember dancing in your arms all night
I was staring into your eyes in a circle of light
I remember your laugh and how we cried sometimes
I remember everything

I don't know what life will bring tomorrow
But I want you there next to me
I don't know where I'll be tomorrow
But I'll remember you and me
You and me

The leaves will change
The world is rearranged
Why do we all have to grow up so fast?
People come and go
And walk in and out of your life
But the ones that you really treasure
Will be with you for all time

And I know all the odds are stacked against us
But I know the rules don't apply to love
I do know that you came to rescue me from my secret life

I don't know what life will bring tomorrow
But I want you there next to me
I don't know where I'll be tomorrow
But I'll remember you and me

Oh I’ll remember you and me
You and me

Nobody's Hero

Written By: K. Leyden, J. Andrea

You wonder how you ended up here
Wandering through steps you can’t retrace
Memories scream, caged in your head
Haunted by ghosts you cannot face
You feel their pain as the bullets cut through
Asking yourself, why couldn’t it have been you
And you’re nobody’s hero

You wear your heart on your sleeve
You’ll wear it out til it bleeds
You’re tattooed with excuses you’re dying to believe
You hold your hand on your chest
Pledge allegiance with regret
You have all of the bruises to prove you deserve a second chance

You know you can’t hide from what you’ve become
Every day is like a sentence you’ve earned
No camouflage can cover your lies
You can’t forget all the lessons you learned
Relive the pain as the silence cuts through
Asking how much more can this world take from you
And you’re nobody’s hero

You wear your heart on your sleeve
You’ll wear it out til it bleeds
You’re tattooed with excuses you’re dying to believe
You hold your hand on your chest
Pledge allegiance with regret
You have all of the bruises to prove you deserve a second chance

And you know you’ve got nothing left
But you’d give anything to forget

You wear your heart on your sleeve
You’ll wear it out til it bleeds
You’re tattooed with excuses you’re dying to believe
You hold your hand on your chest
Pledge allegiance with regret
You have all of the bruises to prove you deserve a second chance

And you’re nobody’s hero
You didn’t ask for this
You didn’t ask for this
And you’re nobody’s hero
