Bio

Rock band THE STREAMERS are the resurrection of the more soulful, more idealistic days when rock music meant something other than just chart placement and reality TV fodder. Based in NYC, the four-member garage outfit recalls the era when rock was raw and raucous, but united with an underlying communal message. This modern melding of fun of social fervor brings us THE STREAMERS, a band on the rise with a unique and heartfelt take on the world in which we live.

Lead singer/guitarist Sean Yoxovic (“yo-ko-vitch”) is the epicenter of THE STREAMERS, bringing a distinct perspective to the band’s sound and meaning. Born and raised in Serbia, Yoxovic faced mountains of hardship from a young age, caught in the middle of a land embroiled in political turmoil. Rock was his saving grace. Recalls Yoxovic, “I started listening to rock music after I saw The Beatles movie, ‘A Hard Days Night’ on national TV. That was quite startling because I’d never encountered anything like it before.”

Astounded by what he saw, Yoxovic threw himself head first into the rock scene, consuming both international phenoms such as The Kinks and the Velvet Underground, as well as immersing himself in the local music landscape. Yet as Yoxovic grew older, the free climate took a turn for the worse in his native Serbia, and rock music was soon looked upon with disdain, forced by the hand of the Milosevic-controlled government. In order to pursue his life’s true passion, Yoxovic had to leave everything behind and venture out on his own.

First busking in pubs throughout Europe, Yoxovic literally hit the jackpot. He remembers, “One day I got an envelope in the mail with a U.S. Green Card. I played the lottery and got lucky. This changed my life.” Upon landing in NYC, Yoxovic made the rounds, leaping on stage at open-mic nights whenever he got the opportunity.

It was soon after that THE STREAMERS were formed, with a team of seasoned performers like Kent Carter on drums and Youval L. on guitar. Utilizing echoes from the past like John Lennon, The Stooges, and psychedelic expression, THE STREAMERS hungrily lunged into the NYC rock realm, working hard to be the best on stage every night and stand out from the hearty competition.

One way they've done so is by creating "Rock Against Landmines," an ongoing tour designated to assist organizations such as Paul and Heather Mills McCartney's "Adopt-a-Minefield" foundation. It was a natural selection for Yoxovic, as many of his friends, family and acquaintances have been affected by this travesty in his war-torn Serbia. Yoxovic states, “The landmine problem is huge around the world, and a big part of the land is poisoned with minefields. A lot of people, most of them children, are killed and seriously injured by them. I am reminded of stories from the Balkans when I saw some landmine survivors. You definitely don’t want this to happen to your kid.” Performing across the country, THE STREAMERS aim to join forces with local talent to bring this important international issue to music fans and citizens of the world alike, while rocking out to some rollicking tunes.
