Bio

"What you want is these massive, beautiful soundscapes but always with the rock 'n roll that kicks you into gear. It's like U2 with Hendrix on guitar. Ok maybe not quite Hendrix but something like that...you get the idea", says Wayne Pauli, The Stremes' lead singer and guitarist.
The idea of forming a band was first talked about by schoolmates Wayne Pauli and Atom Shape (Adam Shapiro) way back when they were thirteen year olds at junior school in Cape Town. Though there was an attempt to get a band going immediately after leaving school with two other schoolmates the circumstances at the time did not permit the project taking off and the idea was shelved though never abandoned. Both went their separate ways with Atom heading off to Ireland to follow his passion for Irish traditional music and Wayne going professional on the Cape Town cover band circuit with his father, a local musician. Wayne formed and played in several bands over the years in Cape Town with varying degrees of success and continued to write songs. It was during this time that he met Benjamin Peacefull, a fellow cover band musician and solo artist. Eventually in 2005 he ended up in London with a group from Cape Town called The Soundfields in which he was the guitarist, and which Benjamin also later joined. In late 2005 he decided to leave in order to front his own material and Atom rejoined from Ireland. With the break-up of The Soundfields, Benjamin went with Wayne to The Stremes and the line-up was completed.

The Stremes are the most modern of bands, making full use of the digital way of making music yet playing guitars and writing songs in the old fashioned way. 'New Digital Romance' is a collection of songs written in the two years since Wayne arrived in the UK from South Africa. "I basically had all these songs which i'd written and figured i'd demo them and get them onto the net and see what happened". In September 2006 after having had the songs on the internet for a while, interest came from A List Records, an indie label in London and an album deal was signed. '"New Digital Romance" is scheduled for release in the Autumn.
