The Stride Set first came together in the summer of 2010, after fiddle players Mèabh O'Hare and Patricia Clark were inspired to form a fiddle-based band. With a six-strong line up of multi-instrumentalists, the band creates an unique sound and style.
Joining Mèabh and Tricia in the all fiddle front-line is Jani Lang. Hungarian-born but Edinburgh-based, Jani brings a huge variety of influences to the band, perhaps most notably that of Balkan music. His ability to master any style along with Mèabh and Tricia's strong, driving playing, creates a massively powerful fiddle section.
Whilst the basis of that sound is the three fiddles, accompanists Michael McCague, Josie Harrington and Kevin Jones lock together bringing a strength, depth and style all their own. Josie's talents as a singer/songwriter add yet another dimension, making the group hugely versatile.
The Stride Set combine traditional with self-penned material from numerous genres; their arrangements finely balance intricate harmony with driving rhythm. The songs are drawn from all angles of the musical spectrum, perfectly complimenting the instrumental sets.
