"BEST BAND 2003"

”Throwing marshmallows at the audience (which ultimately ensues a crowd food fight), playing dress-up in various attire from ‘70s leisure suits to ballet tights and playing some killer punk-surf music is precisely what the Stunt Doubles are all about. They are the best band in Wilmington, according to our readers, and that is quite a feat, as you should have seen the varied bands that made our master list – we had no idea as many bands even existed here. But, it’s the Stunt Doubles who can entertain anyone of any age like nobody’s business. They are mostly hip to the beach scene, and often play Kefi and The Palm Room at Wrightsville, wherein you’ll find mobs of people hyped and ready to see a damn-good show. Like always, these guys provide high-energy and heavy tunes at every performance – no holds barred! What you see is what you get, and believe it when I say, “You ain’t seen nothing yet...at least until you check out these guys.” - ENCORE MAGAZINE

"REVIEW"

The second 6 tracks belong to a crazy punk outfit from St. Encinatas, CA, the Stunt Doubles. These tracks start out with a couple of catchy surf driven tunes. Next, you catch a grenade in the face with the last 5 very loud, very punk tracks. Imagine an American version of GBH minus the Euroism (is that a word?).

Bio

The Stuntdoubles, who recently re-made Wilmington their home after a two yearlong stint in San Diego, are local favorites who continue to pack-out clubs and amaze fans with their comical, Halloween-like stage dress. But don’t let the funny costumes fool you, these boys know how to lay down punk rock the way it is meant to be played. Mixing Venture-esqe surf guitar instrumentals with old-school, L.A. punk inspired rock a la The Descendant and Screeching Weasle and topping it of with an 80s twist (think Devo) has earned them an enormous fan-base that reaches far across the North Carolina state line. If you catch them on the right night, add fire breathing to their merit list, courtesy of Wilmington’s sultry fire-blower, Jaime Johnson.
