What are The Sub Gens?

The Sub Gens are a four piece band from the outskirts of Seattle, Washington. Nick Fontana (guitar, vocals), Jon Holt (Bass), Gus Gustafson (Keys, Synth, Sound Effects), and Ian Asman (Drums) combine their unique musical styles, techniques, and interests into a abstract, yet effective style of music that's not only powerful, but intricate. If you take the psychedelic techniques found in Pink Floyd, the meandering recklessness of The Doors, yet the feel of the "90's scene", all with a modern touch of indie, you've only dug a little into The Sub Gens. Ever changing, with a live performances to get lost in, The Sub Gens will capture you in a a colorful illusion psychedelic sounds, grooving bass lines, funky guitar, and even a little pop here and there. Bizzare, incoherent lyrics struggle to peak above the pounding drums and thundering stratospheric bass lines, as the sound effects penetrate the up and down sound waves with swirls and guitar lines echo up and down the walls of the room. If that sounds groovy, we welcome you to experience The Sub Gens.

Overall History

It all started with Streaking in the Morning. The song, that is. Lead Guitarist/Vocalist Nick Fontana decided that writing a song about streaking with his friend Austin would be funny. In search of a drummer, Nick turned to childhood friend Jon Holt, who he heard had a drumset. Onward to Johns house, and the birth of what would become The Sub Gens. After years of countless terrible jams, with Jon and Nick both struggling to learn guitar, and numerous lineup changes, we finally turned to Ian Asman in hopes of finally getting a permanent drummer. After a year of jamming and recording original songs, Jon decided to take on bass. So, after 4 years of playing, we finally got a bass! That line up lasted two years, and accomplished Battle of the Bands victories, as well achieving a local following. As we progressively got more skilled in the art of creating and playing music (they got really good really fast), we decided to add Gus into the band. His keyboard skills were added in hopes of exploring new sounds and genres. With a solid lineup of consistent and talented musicians, and over 50 original songs, The Sub Gens are bound for glory.
