Bio

Introducing The Subtitles:
A true rock n roll experience, no explanation necessary once you’ve heard this band. They are: Rion McCartney – Drums, Raymond McDermot – Guitar, Shaun Heaney – Vocals, Bryan Brinkley – Bass, Gavin McCartney – Guitar.

WHO: The Subtitles hail from Derry City in Northern Ireland. They formed in August 2003. They are the epitome of the working class man, they work hard and play even harder and their music is as raw and as real as their jobs are. They are aiming high and want to live the dream of making music and playing live 24-7.
Determined, Ambitious and Professional, The Subtitles understand the importance of playing live, it keeps them fresh, tight, hungry and every performance is another step toward live perfection. The last year has seen them play along side and support bands such as Idlewild, Therapy, The Undertones, Red Organ Serpant Sound and The Bees, while persistently being asked to play with other local bands in order to draw the punters. In August 05 they won The Lisburn Music Revolution Final which gained them a support slot to festival headliners Idlewild. They also played the Radio 1 incoming tent at Tennants Vital in Belfast alongside The Cribs and The Dogs.
They have been featured on some of the best alternative Radio shows that include BBC Radio Ulster’s Across the Line, The Donna Legge Show on BBC Radio 1, and Jonny Hero on Downtown Radio. They were also chosen for Northern Ireland The Next Generation Weekend in London in March 05 and impressed the organizers enough to let them perform on both nights.

SOUND: The Subtitles sound is informed by many and draws from several influences, including:
The Ramones, MC5, The Dictators, The Stooges, Radio Birdman and The Hives, but individually their tastes and influences are so eclectic and varied that each time they get together they come up with something different.
The Subtitles have carved themselves a place in 2005/6, when styles and genres have been exhausted it’s all about understanding the importance of a good song and that’s something they know. The music is cool and catchy, punchy and punky, they understand the 3-minute pop song and they take that very seriously.

Press Reviews:
‘Prepare for energetic, skuzzy, garage style rockers/If they don’t have an offer on the table this time next year I’ll eat my laptop. – Alternative Ulster
‘They are part of a musical movement, they are one the revolutions fiery young voices and they demand audience participation. – The Fly
‘The kind of music, that if you heard it whilst driving, your foot would be that bit heavier on the accelerator’– Derry News

MUSIC: To date they have released 2 EPs – An Introduction to the Subtitles – recorded live in 2003 at the Nerve Centre Derry
Their second and self titled EP was launched at the Bound For Boston in Derry which became one of those legendry nights that you talk about for years. They tore the place up and made an impression that helped them sell all 70 demos on sale that night, with demand for more.
This band are energetic, raw, fired and hungry to be discovered.
